Here Is How Social Media Is Killing You Slowly
Yea, I’m serious, social media is affecting your health if you think it’s hard leaving all your friends on social media then think of me who has over 14,000 followers on my Facebook page, so I know it’s a really big deal.
But social media is really killing you, stressing your body out and possibly making you age faster. Negative side effects of social media such as eye strain and social withdrawal are just a start.
It gets worse as social media makes you less happy, imagine arguing with people everyday, comparing your life to those slay queens and kings and big boys and girls you see on your page and reading most of the negative news which is only what makes headlines these days, all that leaves a negative impact on your health.
Next is lack of sleep, many people find themselves sleeping late into at night or falling asleep while waiting for a text or watching their posts or photos get as many likes as they hope.
The effects of poor sleep would just affect you physically but mentally and over time the effects get more dangerous.
Here are some of the mental effects of poor sleep
- Memory lapses (you start forgetting stuff)
- Irritability (these are mood swings, you get easily annoyed, frustrated, depressed and stressed out)
- Cognitive impairment (reduces your ability to think)
- Impaired decision- making ability (it reduces your ability to make good decisions).
- Lack of focus (you find it hard to concentrate or stay focused)
But that doesn’t mean you should completely quit social media, you can start by spending less time on social media. I haven’t quit being on Facebook and Twitter just yet, but I give it less of my time than before.
Here’s what to do
These steps are meant to reduce the amount of time you spend on social media and help you improve your health
1. Don’t start your mornings and don’t end your nights with social media
I mean surfing the net shouldn’t be the first thing you do in the morning, it should be exercising, that is if you want to live a healthier life in 2018.
It also shouldn’t be the last thing you do at the end of the day, dropping your phone an hour before bed will help you fall asleep much faster and it goes beyond falling asleep but getting quality sleep.
2. Focus on your other hobbies
Most people throw their potentials through the window just to live a fake life on social media, your hobbies can turn out to be your greatest source of joy, writing a book, programming, cooking, dancing, photography, art, and music are great hobbies you can start with.
Your hobbies will help keep you occupied and make you more productive.
