Frank Leboeuf gives one key reason why Arsenal will bottle Premier League title
Chelsea legend Frank Leboeuf has provided one key reason why Arsenal will not win the 2022-23 Premier League title.
Arsenal sit top of the Premier League after the opening seven games of the season, ahead of last season’s champions Manchester City.
They have won six of those seven – against Crystal Palace, Leicester City, Bournemouth, Fulham, Aston Villa and Brentford – but lost the other in a 3-1 defeat to Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United.
The Gunners have failed to finish in the Premier League top four since the 2015-16 season, but strengthen significantly in the summer, signing the likes of Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko.
William Saliba has impressed since returning from a season-long loan at Marseille while Granit Xhaka has also been widely praised for his early season showings.
Leboeuf, though, who won two FA Cups at Chelsea, does not feel that Mikel Arteta’s side will challenge for this year’s Premier League title.
‘Arsenal are great and I want to give them all the credit they deserve,’ Leboeuf told ESPN FC.
‘They can try to follow Manchester City, but I don’t think they can win the title because City are superior.’
Pep Guardiola’s side have been dominant in recent years, winning four of the last five Premier League titles.
They have enjoyed an unbeaten start to the 2022-23 campaign – winning five and drawing two – and are just a point behind leaders Arsenal.
The Gunners face a huge test in their next match – coming up against another unbeaten side when they host third-placed Tottenham – for the first North London Derby of the season on October 1.
Spurs have been dealt a huge injury blow ahead of the game after captain and goalkeeper Hugo Lloris withdrew from the France squad with injury on Monday.
Lloris, who also captains his country, had been due to play in France’s Nations League fixtures against Austria and Denmark in the the last international break before the World Cup.
