Can you bring your own food and drink to Glastonbury 2022?
Usually, bringing your own booze to a festival is considered a big no-no.
Some may even choose to flout alcohol bans by trying to sneak in a flask or two under their clothes as they slip past security.
But what’s the deal with Glastonbury? Can you bring your own alcohol, including full bottles of spirits? And do they have rules in place for bringing your own food, snacks, soft drinks, and water?
After all, the festival does last for several days – and when you add in the cost of a ticket, shelling out for pints from the bar and a range of tasty street food-style eats can add up quickly.
Here’s all you need to know.
Can you bring your own food and drink to Glastonbury?
Yep, you can indeed bring your own food and drink to Glastonbury.
On the website’s packing list, it explicitly states: ‘Only food and alcohol for personal consumption can be brought on site.’
Therefore you can’t sell it – there are more than 400 traders for that – nor bring enough to feed the whole campsite, but you can bring food, drinks and even booze for yourself and your party.
One thing that’s not allowed? Any type of glass.
So, if you’re bringing wine, spirits, etc to consume at the festival, then you’ll have to ensure it’s kept in a flask or reusable container, rather than the glass bottle it came in.
You also can’t bring an excessive amount of alcohol, only, Glastonbury says, amounts considered appropriate for ‘reasonable personal use’ – and anything more will be confiscated at the gate.
Keep in mind that the less stuff you bring with you, easier it will be to get set up on arrival.
‘As a general rule, we would ask you to only bring as much as you can carry yourself,’ the Glastonbury website advises.
‘We do appreciate that you’re going to be staying on the farm for several days, but travelling light really will make things quicker. There will be separate search lanes for those with large luggage and trolleys, and we anticipate that these lanes will be significantly slower.’
Glastonbury also encourages people to recycle products brought to the festival.
The website adds: ‘In a stand to make our world more sustainable, we ask you to avoid single-use items and opt for reusable options wherever possible and help us look after the land on which the Festival stands.’
This could include bringing a reusable water bottle, instead of lots of single-use plastic ones. There are free water top-up stations around the festival site.
