BMW Becomes Europe’s Most Popular EV Brand Overtakes Tesla
Tesla was the most popular EV brand in Europe for a long time, but in July, Tesla had to leave that honor to BMW. It is the first time that BMW is at the top in this area.
Tesla sat on the EV throne for a long time, partly thanks to the enormous success of the Model Y, but in July the American brand suddenly fell from it. BMW took over the lead, as Jato Dynamics knows. The Bavarian brand has never succeeded in doing so before. Incidentally, the difference is not much; BMW sold 14,869 fully electric cars last month, and Tesla sold 14,561.
Tesla also topped the electric models’ top 10 with the Model Y. 9,544 were sold. The Tesla Model 3 was good for 4,694 units. BMW owes its leading position mainly to the iX1 (4,305 units), the i4 (4,198 units) and the i5. After BMW and Tesla, Volkswagen is the most popular EV brand; it sold 12,213 electric cars in July. Volvo follows with 10,533 units and Audi closes the top 5 with 8,618 electric cars sold.
