Best Top 8 South Africa(SA) Rappers
South Africa from history tends to raise more growing rappers.
South Africa, having surpassed Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya and the likes, held the whole of the hip-hop community in Africa down, and that’s been from 2015 until now. And the “followings” on the SA hip-hop scene is very vibrant, now, with rappers taking the lead, on the music scene, generally. Impressive kool kats (Pun intended! Before nko ?), and amazing stuffs from these youngins (some are old.) And, yeah, here’s a list of the hottest, out of SA, right now.
1. Cassper Nyovest
Arguably the hottest rapper in Africa, right now, Cassper has attained the highest of heights, which even top rappers “envy.” With three smoking hot studio albums (some gold, some platinum), he has to his name, some of the most critically acclaimed Tapes in Africa hip hop, ever.
The MC blew Africa off, when his 2015 single “Mama I Made It,” took over the airwaves, and since then it’s been hit pon hits. His last year jam “Tito Mboweni,” was one of Africa’s best singles of the year, ranking with “Come Closer,” and “IF.” A feat, not-so-many rappers have achieved. Not even the ones that switched!
Last december, the man filled up FnB stadium, with an estimated audience of 68K. Wawu!!! Which other rapper has done this ? And, now he’s even planning to fill up Mahbida, in Durban.
2. AKA
This rapper topped Africa’s hottest MC list, in 2015, and no doubt, he’s one of those veterans who have taken African hip-hop to the height it is now.
He’s got a superb flow, and delivery that can make you trip (to SA!) And, he’s been dropping hits back to back to front to back again, being one of the most consistent on the scene.
Born Kiernan Jarryd Forbes, the now 30-year-old emcee became popular at a young age, when a group he was part of Entity made a hit; “Touch N Go” – 2002!
3. Nasty C
Nasty is just 19 – or 20 ? Or, whatever. But, wait.. he’s following Cassper and AKA closely, wow! And, if care ain’t taken, Nasty might be atop these guys, in a few years.
Signed to Mabala Noise, the rapper, whose real name is Joshua Ngcobo is one of those “trappers” ruling the “New Wave.” With a “switched-up” and unique flow, Nasty is one of the best. And, yeah, he’s the Future of African hip-hop (in both senses.)
From his “Juice Back,” to his verse on “Coolest Kid in Africa,” to his freestyle on Sway In The Morning, his amazing “Mad Over You” cover, to his Coke Studio jam, “Said” with Runtown, Nasty has proved again and again, he’s one of the bests.
4. Emtee
eMTee, real name, Mthembeni Ndevu, rose to prominence when he dropped one of the best collabos in Africa, “Roll Up,” which featured fellow rapper AKA, and Africa’s biggest pop sensation, Wizkid. But, before then, Emtee had been big art in SA. In 2010, when he collaborated with Maraza, on “In It To Win It,” he scored a National hit.
The 25-year-old rapper has two acclaimed albums, Manando (2017) and Avery (2015) to his credit, and many hit singles.
5. Kwesta
Senzo Mfundo Vilakazi, aka Kwesta, is one of the hottests in SA right now, and ever since. The Gauteng-born MC performed at the 2010 World Cup ceremony alongside Kelly Rowland, and has numerous Awards on his shelf.
His lyrical ability, and flow is something. And, he’s one of the few African rappers that actually get played on Radio.
Since his debut “Special Rekwest” dropped in September 2010, he’s released two chart-topping albums, DaKAR and DaKAR II. His single “Ngud” featuring Cassper is one major breakthrough for Kwesta, as it solidified his status, all over Africa.
6. A-Reece
A Reece, like Nasty C is very young, but impressive also. The 20-year-old emcee, has two solid albums under his belt already. He is a new school rapper, and I like to call him the head boy of the new school!
With singles like “Couldn’t”(his break-out single), “Mgani,” “Rio” and “Ama Hater,” it’s not hard to know that Reece is one of the hardest in the game.
His latest single “Sloppy,” is already making waves, all over Africa.
7. Riky Rick
Riky, also known as Boss Zonke, is a well-respected MC, in South Africa. Born Rikhado Makhado, he’s 31 years old. And, he’s also, a famous actor.
He got “buzzy” when his sophomore single “Nafukwa,” got everyone talking. And, in recent time, Riky Rick, who also doubles as a producer is one of those SA MC’s getting the whole buzz!
