Aribo vows to seize any opportunity to play in the Premier League
Joe Aribo is looking forward to his chance to shine in the English Premier League with Southampton.
Super Eagles midfielder Joe Aribo has promised to make the most of the opportunity to play in the English Premier League as the 2022/23 season starts.
Aribo completed a £6m transfer from Scottish side Rangers to Premier League club Southampton FC during the summer transfer window.
The Nigerian international is gearing up for the start of the 2022/23 season with the expectation of making as big an impact as he made in the Scottish Premiership with Rangers.
Aribo described himself as a ‘fighter’, stating that he is raring to go as he shed light on his tough journey to being a professional football player.
In an interview with the BBC, Aribo said: “I can’t wait for the opportunity, it’s one that I’ve got to grab and I’m ready for it.
“I’ve always been a fighter. I’ve not had it all sweet because I’ve not been in academies.”
The former Charlton Athletic and Rangers star asserted that he has had to work outside of his comfort zone as that approach is what gets him to be the best.
Aribo went on to state that he chose to take up the challenge of playing in the Premier League because he wanted to showcase his talent and that is what he would do at Southampton.
“I’ve had to work and be out of my comfort zone – and that’s where you’re at your best I think, when you’re not comfortable,” Aribo said.
“I believe in myself. I wouldn’t have taken this challenge unless I thought I could showcase my talent, and that’s what I want to be able to do.”
Aribo played a total of 126 matches for Rangers, bagging 26 goals and 25 assists in his time with the Gers.
The Super Eagles star also helped the Scottish giants win the 2020/21 Scottish Premiership trophy, the 2021/22 Scottish Cup as well as scoring Rangers’ only goal in the final of the 2021/22 UEFA Europa League final.
