Adekunle Gold is a Nigerian Urban-Highlife and pop singer, who got signed to YBNL records in 2015 and hit spotlight the same year after releasing several hit singles.
Adekunle Gold’s real name is Adekunle Kosoko and he hails from Lagos Island. He is a prince of Lagos and member of the famous Kosoko royal house of Lagos. He is the only son of his parent. He has 3 sisters (one is however late).
He is also a nephew to legendary Nollywood actor, Jide Kosoko. He wrote his first song at the age of 15 and started out singing in his early teens as a member of the junior church choir. His dad used to play classic songs by King Sunny Ade and Ebenezer Obey while he drove them to school every day. He developed interest in music from listening to those men.
Adekunle Gold is a graduate of Lagos State Polytechnic studied Arts and Design while majoring in Graphics.
CAREER
Before his entry into the mainstream music industry, Adekunle Gold went viral after photoshopping himself into photos of popular celebs which earned him the moniker, ‘King of Photoshop’.
He formed a band “The Bridge” with best friend, Seyikeyz, in 2010 and they released four songs “No sleeping on a bicycle”, “Norm Breaker” featuring Skales and “All of me” (John Legend cover). In 2013, he Left ‘The Bridge’ to debut as a solo act. Having identified his style of music, he released a song titled “Let it stop”, a song about peace for the nation.
In 2014, he released his version of One Direction’s ‘Story Of My Life”, which he titled ‘SADE’. This song enjoyed massive airplay and got him signed to YBNL.
When he released Sade, Fuse and the rest of the YBNL crew listened to it and fell in love with it. Fuse insisted Olamide should sign him with the group.
Later in 2015, Adekunle released another single under YBNL titled “Orente”, the song was quite accepted by fans and was quite a hit same year.
Adekunle Gold has made his movie debut on Kunle Afolayan’s upcoming thriller, ‘The CEO’ and also floated a band, 79th Element just after he parted ways with YBNL.
RELATIONSHIP
Adekunle Gold is reportedly in a relationship with ‘Jamb Question’ singer, Simi although both acts have kept mum about the relationship and are rarely seen together in ‘public’. Simi actually helped Adekunle Gold define his style and helped named his genre, ‘Urban Highlife’. Simi mixed and arranged Adekunle Gold’s three singles, ‘Sade’, ‘Orente’ and ‘Pick Up’.
ENDORSEMENT
Adekunle Gold recently became the ambassador for sickle cell alongside Zahra Buhari the daughter of president Muhammed Buhari. The singer makes good money from his well acclaimed music.
