A 17-year-old boy stabbed to death during ‘mass brawl with machetes’ in East London
A 17-year-old boy has been stabbed to death and another is fighting for his life after a ‘mass brawl with machetes’ broke out in East London.
Emergency services rushed to the scene after receiving reports of disturbance on a residential street in Bow, Tower Hamlets.
Upon arrival, they discovered a mass brawl had broken out following a dispute about a number of uninvited guests at a house party.
Officers at the scene later became aware of two males, believed to be 17 and 18, with stab wounds from the attack that took place in the early hours of this morning.
One of the victims was believed to have been stabbed in the neck, GB News reported.
A spokesperson for the Met said: ‘At 00:09hrs on Sunday, 4 September police were called to reports of a disturbance involving a large number of people in Lichfield Road, E3.
‘Medics from the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance attended. Both males were taken to an east London hospital.
‘Despite the best efforts of medical staff, one of the males – who is believed to be aged 17 – was pronounced dead at 01:54hrs.’
‘The second male – who is believed to be 18 – remains in a critical condition.’
Detectives have opened a murder investigation following the event but have yet to apprehend any suspects.
Detective Chief Inspector Mark Rogers of the Met’s Specialist Crime Command said: ‘This is a highly worrying incident that has left one young man dead and another fighting for his life in hospital. My thoughts and prayers are with their families and friends at this difficult time.
‘I also want to reassure them and the wider community that my team and I are working around the clock to establish exactly what has happened and who is responsible.
‘I would ask anyone who witnessed this incident or may have information that could help our investigation to please get in touch with us and share what you know.’
Up to 100 people were initially reported to be involved in the brawl- many of which were said to be armed with knives and machetes, though the Met has since downplayed the scale of the incident.
‘I am aware of reports saying that about a hundred people, armed with weapons, were involved,’ Mr Rogers said.
‘While I would stress that our investigation is in its very early stages, this information does not appear to be wholly accurate.
‘We know a significant number of people were caught up in this incident but not necessarily directly involved or armed with weapons.’
Following the incident, senior officers authorised a Section 60 order, allowing police to stop and search anyone in the area.
The order stated that ‘weapons have not been recovered and it is believed that there are still persons armed with weapons in the vicinity and concerns that there will be reprisals.’
No arrests have yet been made in relation to the case.
Anyone who has information that can help, including pictures or footage of the incident, is asked to call the Metropolitan Police major incident room on 020 8345 3715 quoting reference Operation Wildcast.
Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
