World Cup 2018: Steven Gerard speaks on England’s chances of winning trophy
Former England captain, Steven Gerrard has stated that the country’s football team at the Russia 2018 World Cup is good enough to win the tournament.
This was as Gerard admitted that England winning the trophy is unlikely to happen.
England will face Tunisia on Monday night before two more group games against Panama and Belgium.
Gerrard told Sky Sports, “I think they’ve got a fighting chance. I like what Gareth’s doing.
“I like the blend and the balance in the team of the ages and that type of stuff.
“It’s a big ask to say they’re going to go and win it and are one of favourites, especially what’s gone before.
“But I’ve got a bit of optimism and a lot of confidence in the boys that they can go and make their country proud I think. That’s the main thing.”
