There won't be a cheaper Galaxy Z Fold — Samsung

The Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition, a more expensive and upscale variant of the Galaxy Z Fold 6, was just unveiled by Samsung. For anyone who genuinely desire a less priced Galaxy Z Fold, the release of a more costly variant might not make sense. Regretfully, it is probably not going to happen anytime soon.

According to a report by SamMobile, a Samsung executive revealed to them that there are no plans for a lower-priced Galaxy Z Fold. The unnamed official is quoted to have said: Rather than considering it (Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition) a premium product, it’s a product released to expand your options. You can choose according to your taste. As of now, we have no plans to release a separate product with a lower price.

Samsung may have been one of the forerunners in the foldable smartphone space, but it is playing catch up now. Brands such as Huawei, Honor, Xiaomi, Oppo, and OnePlus have all launched foldable smartphones that surpass Samsung’s own offerings. And in some cases, not only do they offer better value for money but are also cheaper.

While Samsung has dashed hopes of a cheaper Galaxy Z Fold, it has not said anything about a more affordable Galaxy Z Flip. The Korean tech giant is also facing stiff competition in this segment with rivals offering better hardware and even cheaper models.

As an example, Motorola has the Razr 50 Ultra/Razr+ 2024 (available on Amazon.de for €1,199) and the more affordable Razr 50/Razr 2024 (curr. available on Amazon for $449). This way those who want a foldable but are not willing to pay so much can still purchase one.
