Oyo contingent returns with 10 gold, 7 silver, 10 bronze medals
At the just concluded 8th National Youth Games in Delta State, a delegation from Oyo State came home with ten gold, seven silver, and ten bronze medals.
Compared to 2023, when the state won four gold, four silver, and nine bronze medals, this is a notable improvement.
The team landed safely on Friday night, according to Tunde Ajibike, the acting general manager of the state Sports Council, who revealed this to Punch Online over the phone from Ibadan, the state capital.
Ajibike said, “We arrived in Ibadan last night (Friday). At the recently concluded NYG in Asaba, Oyo State made an impressive showing, securing ten gold, seven silver, and ten bronze medals to finish 7th in the overall standings.
“This marks a significant improvement from last year’s performance, where the state won four gold, four silver, and nine bronze medals.”
He expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance and advised the athletes to continue balancing their educational pursuits with their sporting endeavours.
“We are proud of our athletes’ achievements, and we encourage them to keep pushing themselves both on and off the field,” he said.
The state Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Wasilat Adegoke, spent quality time with the athletes and officials, conveying the State Government’s goodwill and support during the ten-day event in Asaba.
