[STORY] BEHIND CHURCH DOORS (Episode 16)
Episode 16.
A few days later
ZION
12: 30, I park in front of the pharmacy, step out of the car and walk in. There’s a line to pick up prescriptions and I have to wait for almost an hour before I can talk to my brother.
“Hey you,” Zyair says as he pulls down the “Lunch” sign on the shade of the pharmacy door minutes later.
“Hey. Business is booming today?”
“Business has been steady the last couple of days.”
“That’s great. I came to pick you up for lunch. I haven’t seen you in a long time plus there’s something I want us to discuss.”
“Lunch is on you right?”
“Of Course dummy,” I roll my eyes. “With what money would I expect you to take me out for lunch?”
“So you are saying that I am broke?”
“Of Course my brother. You are the brokest niggah I know,” I laugh.
“Whatever! Zoe I am heading out for lunch, ” I will see you later, he tells his colleague before we head out to the car. After we get in, I start driving.
“How is your wife?” I ask.
“She is okay. She traveled to South Africa.”
“For what and with who?”
‘”Church conference with her Bishop.”
I laugh,” And you allowed her?”
“What could I have done? You know how stubborn Tia is. I allowed her to maintain peace in my home.”
“Zyair you need to man up or else they will start sleeping with your wife right under your nose.”
“And what is that supposed to mean?”
“Let he who has ears hear.”
“You think she is cheating?”
“That’s not what I said. I just want you to be alert Zyiar, there’s so much I have heard about that church. Almost two years ago there was a rumour that Kingsley impregnated a young girl from the Church and forced her to abort. That girl died in the process.”
“Why was he never arrested?”
“Are you kidding me? The congregation stood up for him, the girl’s mother was obviously paid off, you know people with money like him can never be arrested. Talk about touching not the anointed ones,” I click my tongue.
“Don’t go around telling people about these things. You could be arrested, you know?”
“Arrested for what?” I laugh. “Do a search on Facebook and you will find these issues.”
“Facebook is filled with so many lies. How can you be so sure this is true?”
“There’s no smoke without fire Zyair.”
“I will check those claims out.”
“You should. And you know Kingsely’s youngest child Sophia. That little girl is at the same school as my friend’s child and rumor has it that she is dating one of the pastors from the church- a married pastor, is that a church you are comfortable with your wife attending?”
“Enough about the church,” Zyair says as I pull up in front of the restaurant.
I laugh, “at least promise me to look into these things. I am not saying this because I don’t like your wife, I am saying this because I love you and I want your marriage to last.”
“Whatever,” we step out of the car and walk into the restaurant before we are led to an empty table at the far end of the room. As soon as we sit, a waitress walks over to us and takes our order.
“So,” I begin but Zyair cuts me short, “I hope this isn’t about the pastor and the church.”
“No it isn’t,” I laugh.
“What is it?”
“Breath of Heaven Children’s Ministries is hiring a Pharmacist. I want you to apply and attach all the necessary credentials, I will pick them up on Saturday and drop them off for you. I have a friend who works there.”
“Some good news!”
“I know right.”
“I will definitely apply. I hope this works out, maybe if I get a job and save up for a few months, Tia will leave that church. You know I feel guilty that I haven’t given her the life I promised I would give her.”
“It’s not your fault that life hasn’t been favourable to you. Tia needs to understand that too.”
” I love that girl and I want things to work out but lately I feel like I am losing her.”
“Why?”
“She has been distant.”
“Look into what I have said.”
“Whatever.”
They bring our food and we immediately dig in. We eat our lunch while talking about random stuff, after that I drive Zyair back to the Pharmacy and promise to drop by on Saturday.

SANNA
I have just walked into the office after lunch and I am sitting at my desk when a knock sounds at the door. I am not expecting anyone, I was hoping to have a lazy Wednesday afternoon.
The knock sounds again, louder this time around.
“Come in,” I say.
The door swings open and pastor Ruth walks in.
“Mum!” I stand up. ” You are welcome,” I gesture towards an empty chair across from mine. .
“Thank you,” she sits down and puts down her large purse on the floor next to the chair.
“You look beautiful as always mum.”
“Thank you.”
Mama Bishop always makes sure she is dressed in the most stylish way possible, whether she is lounging around the house, busy at work or at church. She is actually my fashion icon.
“To what do I owe this visit mum?”
She smiles, “there’s something I wanted us to talk about.”
“Can I offer you anything to drink though?”
“No, I am fine.”
“Okay. I am all ears.”
“How well do you know Tia?”
“Tia? She is my best friend, I know her better than she knows herself, we have been friends for a long time now. Why?”
“Do you know she and my husband traveled to South Africa together?”
“Yes, I know she went with Bishop to the leadership conference.”
“And she told you why she went with him?”
“To perform P.A roles and responsibilities.”
She smiles, “I have a bad feeling about that girl.”
“Why?”
“I don’t know,” she shrugs.
I know what’s running through her mind but she can’t voice it out for fear of denting her husband’s name.
“Tia is married and she is responsible. I don’t think she would do whatever you have in mind.”
“What makes you think you know what’s running through my mind?”
“I didn’t mean to be disrespectful mum but I know Tia, I would never bring anyone to church that could harm you and dad.”
“Maybe I shouldn’t have come here. I am sorry.”
“Are you okay?”
She stands up,” Yes, Stay blessed my child,” She says and with that she picks her purse and hurriedly heads out of my office.
Pastor Ruth is a coward and Bishop knows it, no wonder he keeps having affairs right under her nose.
Bishop K and I are very close, aside from the fact that he is my spiritual father, he is also a close friend to the man I am dating. The man in my life is a Prophet, like Bishop he runs one of the biggest churches in the country and yes he is married but who cares about that? He facilitates my lifestyle and takes very good care of me.
When the Bishop asked me to find him a young woman like me that could take care of his needs like I do for Prophet Elisha, Tia was the first person that came to mind. I saw how my friend was struggling in her marriage and I wanted her to experience the finer side of life.
