Who is the Premier League player with the most goals ever scored in a season?
Erling Haaland’s explosive start at Manchester City has taken the Premier League by storm following the striker’s arrival from Borussia Dortmund in the summer.
The Norwegian started his Premier League campaign with a brace against West Ham on the opening day of the season, which was swiftly followed with back-to-back hattricks against Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest.
The rate at which Haaland has scored goals since arriving in Manchester has caused speculation that City’s new number nine will break the record for the most goals scored in a single Premier League campaign.
But who currently holds the record, and how many goals did they score?
Let’s find out.
Who has scored the most goals in a single Premier League season?
Liverpool forward Mo Salah currently holds the record for the most goals scored in a single 38-game Premier League season.
Salah found the back of the net an astonishing 32 times in the 2017/18 season for the Reds.
The Egyptian fan-favourite scored on the final day of the season to become the outright record-holder, having been tied on 31 goals at the start of the day with former Liverpool striker Luis Suarez.
Andy Cole scored 34 goals for Newcastle in 1993/94, as did Alan Shearer in 1994/95 for Blackburn Rovers, meaning that Cole and Shearer technically hold the record for the most goals in a Premier League season.
However, this was when the Premier League featured 22 clubs and so 42 games were played by each team in a season.
