UK PM Debate: Presenter, Kate McCann, Collapses Live On Air
A leaders’ debate between Rishi Sunak and Liz Truss was dramatically taken off air after presenter Kate McCann fainted and collapsed.
As Sunak and Truss clashed over taxes, NHS funding and the economy in the TalkTV/Sun debate on Tuesday night, a loud crash interrupted the two Tory rivals.
The foreign secretary, who looked visibly startled, said “oh, my god” before leaving the podium as the broadcast cut out.
A TalkTV statement said: “Kate McCann fainted on air tonight and although she is fine, the medical advice was that we shouldn’t continue with the debate. We apologise to our viewers and listeners.”
McCann became the political editor at Talk TV this year after working as a political correspondent at Sky News.
A video of Truss’ reaction to the incident was posted on Twitter.

The programme immediately went off-air, with a message appearing on the screen, saying: “We are sorry for the disruption to this programme.
“We are working hard to fix the issue and will return to normal programming soon.”
Truss and Sunak both tweeted messages of support.
Before the debate was halted, Sunak said it was “entirely reasonable” to ask the largest companies to pay “a bit more” tax because they received taxpayer-funded support during the pandemic.
The former chancellor said: “As we think about ‘well, how do we fix this problem, how do we fund the things, the public services that we rely on’, is it reasonable to ask the biggest companies in the country to pay a bit more tax?”
But Truss, who would scrap the scheduled 19p to 25p increase in corporation tax, said: “I am not talking about cutting corporation tax, I’m talking about not raising corporation tax.”
Sunak’s policies would make the UK less competitive and push the country into recession, she warned.
Truss is currently the overwhelming favourite to be named the UK’s next prime minister on 5 September.
She is comfortably more popular than Sunak among Conservative Party members, whose votes over the summer will decide the outcome of the contest.
