[STORY] SUSAN’S REVENGE (Episode 23)

Episode 23.

I tried the engine several times but it didn’t work. Hmmmm, it gave me a little trouble in the morning. But when school closed, it started immediately I turned it on.

Now it suddenly stopped on the way. Lord what do I do? I can’t just leave my car in the middle of nowhere.
I was worried and for a few minutes, God wasn’t saying anything. I was surprised, because he was always speaking to me.

I continued to try the ignition till my fingers began to ache. My eyes were getting blurred with tears.
“God please help me!” I whispered in frustration.
“SUSAN WHY ARE YOU WORRIED?”
I breathed in relief.
“Daddy where have you been?” I asked.

“I’VE BEEN LOOKING AT A SMART GIRL. SHE’S SO SMART THAT SHE CAN SOLVE ALL HER PROBLEMS. SO SHE’S ACTUALLY WORRIED RIGHT NOW. AND HER WORRIES IS GOING TO MAKE THAT VEHICLE START WORKING”, He replied.
I saw my mistake and bowed my head.
“Daddy I’m sorry! I got so worried without even knowing! Please forgive me!”
“SUSAN! DID I SUDDENLY BECOME POWERLESS?”
“No sir! I’m so sorry!” I apologized.
“OH! MAYBE I WAS POWERFUL ENOUGH TO PROVIDE THE CAR, BUT TOO POWERLESS TO FIX IT, RIGHT?”
My tears dropped. I knew I had made an idol out of the car. God was still breaking me through what was happening now.
“Lord please!”
“DID YOU ASK ME WHAT TO DO, WHEN THE ENGINE STOPPED WORKING? DID YOU?”
“No!” I replied.

“SOME PROBLEMS CAN BE HANDLED BY GOD. SOME ARE TOO MUCH FOR HIM. I’LL WORRY ABOUT IT AND SOLVE IT MYSELF. HAVE YOU FINISHED SOLVING IT?”
“Daddy please!” I said in a choked up voice.
He was silent for a while, then replied.
“IT’S OKAY MY GIRL! I FORGIVE YOU!”
Immediately he said that, my peace returned. I breathed down a sigh of relief. Wow! God’s word is so powerful. But why did he have to take my little worry so serious.
As that thought dropped in my heart, a scripture echoed in my head.
As many as I love, I chastise. Hmmmm! God can tolerate worry from others, but in my case, he will not. Even my slightest mistake would not be treated lightly.
That was the level of my relationship with him. Just giving in to the spirit of worry and anxiety was enough to get daddy angry.
“Lord help me! I don’t love this side of you one bit!” I prayed grinning.
I could hear him laughing in my spirit. Joy bubbled within me. I was so excited about our reconciliation. And I had to caution myself to be careful with my thoughts next time. I had serious work to do.
“So what do I do now?” I asked within me.
“CALL MY SWEET BOY!”
I started laughing immediately.

“Daddy hope you are not setting me up?” I asked giggling.
“IS IT YOUR SET UP?” He replied.
“Aah! Daddy, it’s not fair oooo!” I said as I picked up my phone and dialed George’s phone number.
“LOOK AT THE WAY SHES SMILING? I’M GETTING JEALOUS OH!”
My stomach tightened as I laughed, unknown to me, George had picked my call.
It was when I felt vibration from my phone that I realised myself.
“I’m so sorry sir!” I quickly apologized.
“What was going on?” He asked.
“Don’t worry about me bro, I’m fine. I just need some help with my ride. It stopped along the road. Please can you help me get a good mechanic?” I asked.
“Don’t worry! I’m turning around to meet you right now!” He replied.

“That won’t be necessary sir! Just help me get a good mechanic. The guy who worked on my car the last time was a big cheat. He really took advantage of my ignorance about cars. My mistake was not seeking someone’s help or advice before picking up that guy!”
“Susan, you need not worry. I’m coming already”.
“Sir, you must be so busy. I won’t love to take some of your time”.
“SUSAN! MY SON SAID HE’S COMING! WHICH ONE ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?”
“Daddy leave me oh! Allow me do my woman thing”, I replied within me.
I could hear him laughing and it brought a smile on my face.
“Susan, I still have something I need to tell you. Something really really serious!” He said.
I gulped down, eyes widened.
“Okay sir!” I replied and ended the call.
Five minutes later, George drove in and came out of his car.
“Sir, I really appreciate you for sacrificing your time for me”, I began.
“Susan, it’s nothing”, he said with a wave of hand.
He opened my car bonnet and told me to try the ignition. I tried it for a while. Then he told me to stop. He touched some few things in the engine and told me to try the ignition again.
The car roared to life. I was so excited.
“George! You never told me you are a mechanic?” I teased.
He smiled and closed the bonnet.
“I’m not! I just had a few idea on cars. And about mechanics, I’ll take you to my personal mechanic. He’s so good and he’s not a cheat. He’ll be the one to work on your car from now henceforth”.
“Thank you so much sir!” I said heartily.
“You’re welcome! He smiled.
I felt like giving him a hug.
“DON’T EVEN TRY IT!” Daddy said.
“Why Na?

“I DON’T OWE YOU AN EXPLANATION!” He said, dismissing the topic.
“So you said you had something to tell me. What are your could that be?” I said, my heart was already rejoicing.
He started looking at the ground as he talked.
“Guy, which one is this ground you are looking at?” I asked inwardly.
“Susan, there are some things I would not believe can be possible. I can’t imagine it because you are my mentor. And as your mentee, I’m supposed to to to…..
Let me come again”.
“Please do!” I said inwardly.
“I believe I have this respect for you and it the respect to deserve as a vessel God used for my life. I’m sorry! Let me start afresh!”
“Chai! See Brother oh!” I said within me.
“STOP LAUGHING MY SWEET BOY!”
“I’m not laughing! It was merely a comment!” I grinned, still giving him my complete attention.
“Susan! You have such a clean record. Unlike me! I don’t deserve you! No no I meant to say, I don’t deserve to be, you know, around someone like you.
What I’m trying to say is that. I’m trying to tell you that I was trying to make myself clear. I was trying to tell you that even if I try to tell you what I’m trying to say. All I will be trying to say will only be a try. So I want to try to tell you that I want to try to tell you that I am trying to say”.
He paused and looked away.
“Chai! Daddy, you get boys oh!” I teased.
“YES! MY BOY IS SO SCARED OF YOU. SEE WHAT YOU HAVE DONE TO HIM?” He replied teasing.
I was just laughing within me.
“Lord should I help him?” I asked.
“HELP WHO? HE MUST SAY IT OH! YOU ARE NOT GOING TO SAY IT FOR HIM!”
“Okay oh! Please tell him I don’t bite oh. My teeth are not sharp!” I leaned my back on the car and crossed my legs, standing.
“Hi George!” A young man greeted as he pulled over. He parked and came down to meet us.
“Bro George!” He said spreading his arms for a hug.
They hugged each other and exchanged laughter.
“George, who is this Angel? Is this your wife to be?” He asked pointing at me.
“Jesus! No oh!” He screamed.
“She is my mentor!” He said with fear written all over his expression.
Why is this guy like this?
“But George! People dey marry mentor Na! This one fit you die!”
“Please help me tell him oh!” I said within me.
“Susan please, don’t be offended by my friend’s attitude!” He pleaded.
“Your friend Sabi level pass you!” I wanted to say.
“Oh! It’s nothing!” I said instead.

“George hurry up and propose Jor. Me I want to do the best man oh!” He said and I laughed. George was the only one hiding his humour.
The guy continued talking till we all got tired of the marriage subject. Finally, he waved us goodbye and drove off.
“I’m sorry for wasting your time!” George began another round of apologies.
“That’s okay!” I said.
“I guess we should discuss this another day! Hope you are not angry with me?” He asked with a sorry face.
“No!” I grinned.
“I’m really sorry for taking your time!” He apologized again.
“Chai! George, Na wa for you oh!” I said within me.
“I should be the one saying that! I took your time because of my car. Please forgive me!” I said to ease his tension.
“Oh don’t worry about it!” He said and smiled for the first time.

I got into my car and turned on the ignition. I drove home laughing at the drama George acted that afternoon.
