Champions League: Silva message to UEFA over officiating in Man City’s loss to Liverpool
Manchester City midfielder, Bernardo Silva, has sent a message to European football governing body.
The Portuguese called on UEFA to introduce Video Assistant Referee, VAR into the Champions League next season.
He made the call after Manchester City crashed out to Liverpool in controversial circumstances in the Champions League quarter final second leg on Tuesday.
Silva saw team-mate Leroy Sane’s first half goal wrongly ruled out for offside, which would have left the match finely poised at 3-2 to Liverpool on aggregate.
Manager Pep Guardiola was sent to the stands for his frustrated reaction to the poor refereeing decision, and Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino scored two second-half goals to send City out 5-1 on aggregate.
While Silva was happy with his team’s efforts, he also asked the football governing body to bring in VAR next season.
“Thank you all for the support and amazing atmosphere tonight! We gave everything we could so no regrets,” he posted on Instagram after the match.
“Next year we’ll be back to try again!
“Congratulations to @liverpoolfc and good luck on the semi finals. Now let’s go win the premier league and end the season with a title.
“Please @championsleague could you guys start using the VAR next season? It might be useful.”
