Episode 10.

“Dammy, why are you hurting me?”

Dammy turned around to see who said that. She wasn’t surprised to see that it was David. He had been following her secretly since she had left the classroom to get something in the cafeteria.

“David, what’s your problem? What did I do to you?”, Dammy asked.

“You captivated my heart. That’s what you did” , David said.
Dammy felt the urge to laugh. She couldn’t believe that the same guy that every girl wanted was actually interested in her.
“So, what do you want me to do for you”, Dammy said trying to control her laughter.

David replied shamelessly,” I love you and I want you to be my girlfriend”

“Really? Well, I’m not interested”, Dammy said and turned to walk away.

“Wait”, David said and Dammy stopped abruptly.

David towards her and said, “I don’t really mind if you don’t want to be my girlfriend. I just want to tell you that you look really beautiful, Dammy”

With that, David walked away.

Those last statements got into Dammy. She had been waiting for years to hear her mom tell her that she was beautiful, and here was a guy, who doesn’t know her that much, telling her that she was beautiful.

Dammy looked at a glass window opposite here and saw her beautiful reflection. She looked towards the direction David went, but, he was out of sight.

“So, how is your mom?”, Mr Philips asked as Dammy took a seat in his office.

Dammy looked up and said,” She is fine. I have been avoiding her recently. I don’t like bringing problem for myself. I just stay in my room throughout whenever I’m at home”.

“Wow! That’s really serious. Dammy, I thought you’d never come to my office again. The way you reacted the other day was really wild. I know that you were angry then, but, you shouldn’t have react cold to me. That isn’t the solution to the problem”

“I’m sorry, sir. I didn’t know what came over me. My mom’s reaction made me very bitter. I couldn’t control my emotions when I got to you”

“I understand dear. Anybody in your shoes would likely do the same. So, how about your relationship with God?” Mr Philips asked concernedly.

Dammy sighed and said,” I’ve been trying my best. I say a short prayer when I wake up in the morning everyday. I also read my Bible once in a while. I also sing worship songs whenever I’m doing the household chores”

Mr Philips smiled and said, “Is that the kind of relationship you have with God”

Dammy nodded.

“Do you know that you can have a deeper relationship with God? He could be your best friend. You can talk to Him whenever you want to. You can share all your problems, challenges and difficulties with Him. When you surrender your whole life to Him, he would start living in you and He would fill you with His Holy Spirit. He would be a Father to you and your life would be complete”.

“Wow, that’s cool. But, I’m a Christian already”, Dammy said.

“Why did you say that you are a Christian?” Mr Philps asked.

“Well, I go to church every Sunday. I pray to God and read my Bible”

“Is that all?”, Mr Philips asked.

Dammy nodded in affirmative.

Mr Philips said, “My dear, Christianity goes beyond going to church every Sunday, reading your Bible and praying to God. That’s not only what makes you a Christian. Christianity is deeper than that. Christianity means Christ-like. It’s when everything you do is in accordance with Christ. The apostles were called Christians because everything they did portrayed Jesus Christ. They behavior was like that of Christ, they prayed, fasted, performed miracles like Christ. They also lived a holy life. My dear, if you call yourself a Christian and your life doesn’t portray Christ, you are not truly a Christian. Do you understand me?”

“Yes sir. I really understand every bit of what you said”, Dammy replied.

Mr Philips checked his wrist watch and said, “Dammy, you would be having a class in some minutes time. I wouldn’t like you to miss your class. You can return to your class room now and come back when you are less busy”.

“Okay sir. Thank you very much, I really appreciate”, Dammy said as she stood up to go to her class.

The school had already closed for the day. Dammy sat in her class ruminating over the things Mr Philips said. Her class was scanty because most of her classmates had gone home.

Dammy’s driver was not yet around, so, she had to wait for him.
She had lived her life trying to please God, but, she had always been unstable. She really wanted to be close with God. She wanted her Christianity far beyond just going to church. She just didn’t know what to do.

“Thinking about something again”, David interrupted her thoughts.
