[STORY] THE ABOMINABLE ACT (Episode 25)

Episode 25.

Mrs Williams was tossing round the hospital reception, she just can’t seen to relax her mind, she fears for her son and pray nothing happens to her son, Natasha just sat down without saying anything, her mind was totally blank because she didn’t know what she was feeling, Mr Williams could gaze at his wife then at his daughter, even with his strong heart, he still love his son more than anything in the world.
It has been 45 minutes since they rush Nathaniel to the hospital but yet the doctor hasn’t given them any news, they were all growing inpatient, just then the doctor came in, he was their family doctor, seeing the doctor they all got up except for mrs Williams who was already standing.
MRS WILLIAMS
Please how is my son, is he alright.
DOCTOR
It all right ma’am, calm down please.
MR WILLIAMS
So how is he.
DOCTOR
Please let’s go to my office.
They all followed the doctor to his office, he didn’t have to lead the way because they already knew where the office is except for Natasha, the doctor, Mr and Mrs Williams sat down but Natasha remain standing.
MRS WILLIAMS
(Worried)
So doctor how is he.
DOCTOR
(Exhale heavily)
Did any of you knew that Nath has had an heart attack twice within one month.
They were all shock to hear that, all were looking at one another.
MR WILLIAMS
With the look in our faces, you should know who didn’t know, but were you aware of this.
DOCTOR
I am as shock as you are, Nath never for once has any case of heart attack since he was born, as your family doctor I should know of these things.
MRS WILLIAMS
Doctor, if you are not saying it now, we couldn’t have know.
DOCTOR
(Bitterly)
And with his condition he was passing through a lot of stress, thinking too much, those things can activate an heart attack.
With the sound of the doctor voice, mr Williams knew something was wrong, he has known the doctor for 28 years now and this is how he behaves most times when he is about to give you an unpleasant news.
MR WILLIAMS
Tell me what is it, you know if its money that’s not a problem, I can send him abroad for treatment.
DOCTOR
Williams, your hospital is one of the best in Nigeria, it has all the facilities you can think of, all the best doctors, what makes you think that it is something we cannot handle.
MR WILLIAMS
I know but the worry in your voice is scary, what is it.
The doctor bend his head down, the news was hard to say.
MR WILLIAMS
Just say it, I believe we can take it.
DOCTOR
Williams, what am about to say is not a pleasant news at all.
MRS WILLIAMS
(Crying)
Please, just tell me that what ever it is, we can solve it please.
Natasha was just there waiting to here what he has to say, but she was ready to stick with Nathaniel no matter how bad it may be.
DOCTOR
You see, that is the last heart attack his heart could hold.
MR WILLIAMS
Jesus
MR WILLIAMS
What are you trying to say.
DOCTOR
He was no longer strong enough to push through.
Natasha went still, the world was crushing on her, she was trying to make herself believe she heard wrongly.
Mr Williams was not a child, he already knows the message the doctor was trying to pass.
MR WILLIAMS
Are you trying to say my son Nath is dead.
MRS WILLIAMS
Honey don’t say that, that’s now what he wants to say, am I right doctor.
The doctor slowly got up from his sit, Nathaniel was also like a son to him, he has been his doctor ever since he was born, Nathaniel died in his hand and he felt useless when he couldn’t save him, he walked up to mrs Williams.
DOCTOR
We tried our best but there was nothing we could do.
MRS WILLIAMS
Please, no na, you can’t tell me my baby Nath is gone, he can’t be dead.
The word Nath is dead kept repeating in Natasha’s head, her heart was beating too fast, she can’t believe Nath is dead, she tried to move but her legs got weak, everywhere immediately got dark, the doctor who was trying to console mrs Williams was fast enough to catch Natasha before she hits the floor, both mr and mrs Williams ran to meet her, they quickly rush her out of the doctor’s office, the doctor has first examined her, he said she just faintly, but yet mrs Williams was worried, she can’t bare to loss two of her children same day.
It been three days since the death of Nathaniel, the news about his death has gone global, it’s on every news and everyone’s lip, families, friends and well wishes have been coming to the Richardson house to show their condolences, Mr Williams was trying to be strong as a man but it was hard, his only son who he cherished so much was gone and his money can not bring his back, Mrs Williams has been crying, begging God to take her life and bring back Nathaniel to life, even with everyone trying to calm her down the mention of Nathaniel name reopen the wound again, everyone in Richardson families was in mourning, indeed they lost an important person. Natasha hasn’t said a word since the death of Nathaniel, she has been indoor, truly twins has this strong connection that when one leaves, the heart of the other he takes with him, that was the case of Natasha, she was living but seen she is dead, she could sometimes laugh and then resume starring at the no where in particular, even Phillip has come to be with her, Philip was deeply hurt when he heard about Nathaniel death he knew the connection both sibling had, even with their misunderstanding they were inseparable, seeing Natasha in that condition all the pain he has been going through all these days turn to nothing, he truly loves Natasha and this time he was willingly to be with her no matter what, mr and mrs Williams was worried for Natasha, the doctor told them that she was still in shock, but she needs all the help she could get to help her come out of the shock.
It was the fourth day, mr and mrs Williams, mr Williams younger brother Evans and younger sister Josephine were all sited in the sitting room discussing when the door bell rang, the maid quickly went to open the door, Philip and Michael walked into the sitting room, they immediately greeted everyone whose respond to their greeting.
PHILLIP
Sir, this is Michael, Nath best friend and flat mate.
Michael greeted them again, they all accepted his greeted and offended them a sit.
MR WILLIAMS
How are young man.
MICHAEL
(Almost in tear)
Please sir, tell me Nath is alive please.
MR WILLIAMS
(Sigh)
Nath died four days ago.
Michael let out the tear, he had heard the news but didn’t believe it.
MR EVANS
Its all over the news, you should have heard it.
MICHAEL
(In tear)
I didn’t know, I didn’t know, we were together on Saturday, before I woke up the next morning he was already gone, he told me earlier that he will be going home that Sunday, I also travel to my villages to see my grandma who was sick, am just coming back today and the news is all over the school, I couldn’t believe it that’s why I came sir, but it true, hey, I called him all through my stay in the village but his number wasn’t going through so I thought something went wrong with his phone, but I was wrong, God.
Philip tap him on his back to console him.
MR WILLIAMS
That is how it is, he died of heart attack.
MICHAEL
(Surprise)
Heart attack
MR WILLIAMS
Yes, thats what the doctor said.
MICHAEL
Ohhhh, Nath, I warned you, I warned you, but you won’t listen, I told you to take it slow, Nath why, why, why didn’t you listen.
Now all their focus was on Michael.
JOSEPHINE
Young man, it seen you knew about his condition.
MICHAEL
He was my bestfriend, we don’t hide anything from eachother, he has had twice attack, I begged him to tell his parents but he said he can take good care of himself, he refused to visit the family doctor, but he promised me that Saturday that everything will be settle on Sunday when he gets home, I guess he never had that chance.
MR WILLIAMS
He truly never did.
EVANS
we were told that he was passing through some stress, do you happen to know anything.
Immediately Michael grow silent, all eyes were on him.
MICHAEL
You don’t know
They all looked at each other.
MRS WILLIAMS
Do you know anything
JOSEPHINE
You can’t lie because you said you both don’t hide any secret
Michael swallowed hard, he didn’t know if it was in his place to say it.
MICHAEL
Yes I know everything, but it’s not in my place to say it and even if I want to Natasha must be here.
PHILLIP
She can’t, ever since the death of Nath she has been a shadow of herself, I only fear for her pregnancy.
MICHAEL
(Shocked)
Natasha is pregnant
PHILLIP
Yes
MRS WILLIAMS
My son is dead and my daughter is pregnant for no one.
MR WILLIAMS
What my wife is trying to say is, Natasha refuse to say who impregnated her.
MICHAEL
O my God, it complicated then I thought, this is hard to say, please can I see her.
MR WILLIAMS
I believe you have something to tell us, and if seeing Natasha will make you talk then you will, honey please can you get Natasha, just try and bring her ok.
PHILLIP
I will go with you ma’am.
They both left to get Natasha, the rest of them looked at Michael wondering what the boy knows, Michael was lost in thought, he couldn’t believe Natasha is pregnant with Nath child, few minutes mrs Williams and Phillip entered with Natasha, Michael got up, Natasha sat on the same couch with her parents, and mrs Williams and Phillip sat down, Michael walk to Natasha and bended down that his face was almost equal level with that of Natasha’s.
MICHAEL
Hey, do you remember me, am Michael, Nath’s friend, am so sorry about his death, I can’t ask how are you doing because it will be a stupid question, but there is something I want to say, that need to be said, just want to first let you know that I know everything.
Natasha that has been looking into space turn to look at Michael, and this baffled all because that will be the first time for days now that she has ever tried to listen to anyone.
MICHAEL
Yes, and I want to tell them
Natasha immediately held his two hands tightly, her eyes was pleading not to, they knew something was wrong.
MICHAEL
I have to, it will make Nath rest in peace, he has always wanted this, I think this is the best time for this.
Natasha slowly removed her hands from his.
MICHAEL
Thank you
Michael got up and went back to his sit, they all kept quiet, patiently waiting for him to start, Michael knew he was doing the right thing.
MICHAEL
Sir, do you trust your household, can they keep a secret.
Mr Williams was confused at the question but he knew that what ever goes on in his house has never been heard outside so yes he did, he looked at Phillip.
PHILLIP
This is my family too.
MR WILLIAMS
Yes I do, please go on
Michael was satisfied with the answer.
MICHAEL
(Sign)
Well it all started few months ago………….
