Herdsmen attacks may lead to famine – Nasarawa lawmakers
Nasarawa State House of Assembly has called for a lasting solution to the clashes between farmers and herdsmen in the country.
The lawmakers also warned that the crises may lead to food shortage in Nigeria.
They further cautioned politicians, religious, community leaders and other stakeholders against inciting statements.
Speaker, Ibrahim Abdullahi, spoke on behalf of his colleagues yesterday while reading the assembly’s resolution submitted by the majority leader of the assembly, Tanko Tunga.
He appealed to farmers and herdsmen to co-exist peacefully in order to boost food production, noting that “their continued feud may cause food shortages in the country at large.”
“What happened in Benue State was very sad because so many people had lost their lives and properties worth millions of naira destroyed as a result of the crisis.
“This house shares the pains over the loss of lives and properties in Benue and Nasarawa States border communities.
“We also appreciate the federal government’s efforts in tackling security challenges in the country,” the speaker added.
