Episode 01.

I got a call from my wife as I stood with my manager which I had to ignore but it kept ringing despite I ended the calls numerous times.
“Sorry about that sir” I apologized to my boss as the calls kept interrupting our conversations and I switched off the phone.
Minutes later I left the office and turned on the phone to call back, but she was not picking up. I heaved and sent her a message explaining just where I was thinking probably she’s offended I dropped the call on her and switched off the phone.
My wife kind of has trust issues with me and I don’t blame her because I messed up first. But I’m trying my best to be that better man and to make up for my mistakes, but I guess it won’t be easy especially when I don’t stay with her anymore because of my job, though I do travel home to be with her.

I waited for my wife to call back but she didn’t after a few minutes and I called back,
“Hello, love sorry I was with my boss” I quickly said when she picked up.
“We are in the hospital, mama just slumped here at home,” she said with a shaky tone.

“What!” I shouted getting up from where I sat.
“I’m running around now to get things done and we need money” she continued and I worriedly rubbed my head.

“What’s the situation there? Is it that bad?” I asked.
“I said mama slumped and you’re still asking how bad it is huh? We need money,” she replied.

“Uhmmm okay let me see what I can do I’ll call you back,” I said.
“You didn’t ask about the amount the hospital is demanding?” my wife asked.

“Love let me call you back please,” I said and dropped the call.
It was already 4 pm and to be honest, I was broke. The salary for the month has not been paid and I wondered what could have made my mother slump just like that. My wife is heavily pregnant for the first time after our 4 years of marriage and my mother offered to stay with her since I am away, now this.
I hurried up with the files on my table and I peeped to see my boss leaving which I quickly followed him behind and took off for the day. I didn’t bother to tell my boss about this because it’s a complete waste of time, my boss does not know “salary advance” language and won’t help you with money either even if you’re at the brick of death.

Fortunately for me, my late father had a small compound I gave out for rent and about two tenants, their rents were long overdue.
I called their numbers and both were switched off. I rebuked the devil and decided to drive down to the compound but my car broke down on the way. I came out of the car looking at it with frustration, the thought of calling a mechanic when I am looking for money was so annoying.
There, my wife called again and I breathed out before picking up,

“Love what’s the situation there?” I asked.
“She has low sugar” she replied.

“Low sugar? What is that one?” I asked.
“You’ve just heard she has low sugar, where are you?” She asked when a loud horn was heard.

“On the road. I have no money and I was just on the way to meet the tenant and get money from them but my car broke down. I’m just here” I replied.
“Hmmm, love you have to find money o, I borrowed money from our neighbor and you know she talks a lot. I have to pay her between today and tomorrow” my wife said.

“Okay I’ve heard you,” I said and wanted to stop a taxi but I noticed my wife’s voice changed.
“What is it? Are you okay?” I asked as I tried to hear her.

“Love my stomach o, I guess all the running around today. Please you have to come back o” she replied as she winced in pain and I just opened my mouth speechlessly.
“You said I have to come?” I asked but she dropped the call. Instant sweat came upon me and I called my mechanic telling him where the car is and stopped a taxi to take me to the compound.

Fortunately for me, the tenants I wanted to see were at home and I didn’t waste time pouring my frustration on them.
“Give me my money, I won’t leave here until you pay me!” I shouted.
“Oga landlord you didn’t call that you’re coming, here no be bank,” one said.

“Other days I’ve been calling before coming do I always see you at home?” I asked.
“There’s no money o, this one you bothered to come even if you shake me from now till tomorrow nothing will come out,” the other tenant said. My head sparked and I ranted enough and even threatened to involve the police,

“You will bring that money out at the police station. It’s four months already and you’re saying you don’t have my money, just wait and see,” I said and attempted to make a call after a lot of dragging.
“Oga calm down na you too dey vex. Na this mud house we dey manage you wan send us go prison?” One asked keeping my phone down.

“How much be that your money sef?” The other asked as I just looked at them, and just like that, they paid the money. I smiled inside of me even though I kept that stern and angry look.
“Don’t ever try to stress me this way again, if you know this mud house is not convenient for you then park out!” I shouted.

“Oga no make noise again come dey go make we hear word,” they said as I left the compound and breathed out. I was sweating hard and I didn’t know getting money from stubborn tenants is a whole big work on its own and I was so pleased with myself that the threat went well.
I called my wife to know how she was doing but her voice was not good at all and it made me scared. She’s seven months pregnant and I know the stress most hospitals do give whenever a patient is carried there.
“I don’t want to lose my baby” I heard my wife whisper and it rang a bell in my ears.

“What did you say? How can you think of something like that? Common love nothing like that will happen” I said but she was quiet.
“You know what baby I am coming. Let me call my boss now and ask for permission, I’ll call you back okay” I said knowing that is exactly what she wants to hear and I dropped the call.

I called my boss and told him the situation on the ground,
“So what are you saying now? You want to travel?” My boss asked.
“Yes boss and I am thinking of moving this night so I can arrive in the morning and move again in the night. Just one day please so I can see how my wife and mother are doing,” I replied.

“Okay no problem,” my boss said.
‘Thank you sir” I happily said and dropped the call and left to book a bus for the night.

The bus was to leave by 10 pm and I got home to arrange myself then I looked at the money. I saw no need for transfer when I’ll be there in the morning, I just packaged it well in the school bag I’ll be carrying and took a few provisions in the house for them.
Before I left the house for the park I called my wife,
“Be expecting me in the morning okay?” I said when she picked up.

“What! You’ll be moving in the night?” She asked and I smiled at the way her voice sounded.
“Calm down okay, it’s not the first time right? And again, my boss gave me only a day off,” I replied.

‘But that’s not fair,” she said.
“It’s alright dear, I’ll arrive there safely okay,” I said to her.

“Okay love, safe trip,” my wife said and I hung my school bag and turned off the lights.
“Thank you my love, what should I bring for you?” I asked and she laughed.

“If you see Kilishi that’s alright,” she replied.
“Sure, I love you,” I said leaving the house.

“Love you too. Call me when you move okay,” she said and I just threw her a kiss and dropped the call.
A few minutes past 10 pm we took off and I called my wife letting her know………….
