Road to Nowhere By Success Adegbite

Episode 22.

“Do you mind a drink?”, Mrs Seye asked.

“No, ma. I’m fine”, Dammy replied.

Dammy looked around and felt really comfortable. She was not in Mrs Seye’s house, but, she was in the hotel Mrs Seye was lodging. True to her thoughts, Mrs Seye had travelled down to that city to be a speaker in a program.

Some hours earlier, Mrs Seye had called Dammy and talked to her. She asked of Dammy’s location at that time and Dammy told her. It was a great risk for Mrs Seye to go to meet Dammy because, she didn’t know Dammy before and she didn’t know if she was being set up by some unknown people.

She took the risk because she knew it might make a difference in someone’s life. Mrs Seye went with her personal assistant. They got to the hotel where Mrs Seye was lodging and Mrs Seye invited Dammy into her room.

“Well, I insist you take something. I’m sure you are hungry by now. You have been in the sun since morning we are in the evening already. It’s not good to starve yourself especially with the condition you are now”, Mrs Seye said referring to Dammy’s pregnancy.

” Okay, thank you ma. I’ll accept anything you offer me”, Dammy replied. She was not really concerned about the pregnancy. Although, she didn’t hate the baby in her, but, that was the least of her problems.

Mrs Seye made a phone call to order for food from the receptionist. Some minutes later, the food was brought into Mrs Seye’s room.

Mrs Seye made sure Dammy ate satisfactorily without disturbing her. After Dammy was done eating, Mrs Seye sat opposite to her and said, “Tell me everything that happened”.

Dammy started the narration and told her everything. All what Mrs Seye could say in between the story was, “Hmm”.

After Dammy was done with the story, Mrs Seye heaved a sigh.

“Dammy, your story is indeed a touching one and I’m really interested in helping you out. Actually, it’s not my duty to blame you for what happened. Blaming you wouldn’t make a difference. I can’t blame your parents either, the deed has been done.

But, I need to point some facts to you. Firstly, let me tell you this, you are the sole determinant of your life. If you fail, it’s your fault. If you succeed, it’s your fault. I’m not saying that your parents are right with their actions towards you, but, their actions shouldn’t be an excuse for you. You could have comforted yourself and driven away all distractions and temptations around you.

Also, you don’t go to guy’s house alone. Especially, if he is the only one at home. You can’t be over confident of yourself, anything can happen. That’s the problem many ladies have out there. They are too confident in themselves. They believe they can control themselves when they are with guys. They also believe that their male friends are spiritually active, so, they can’t have sex with them. But, my dear, this is not the issue of spirituality. Anybody can be sexually aroused when they are with an opposite sex.

Especially if they are both together in a inner place. This is not also about self control. You might lose control if you are not careful. Don’t be too confident in yourself.

Then, I can’t fail to talk about the trauma you had growing up. I know it’s completely wrong for your brother to have taken away your virginity. I also know the pain you felt that time as a result of the recklessness of your parents. But, you should have trusted your brother when he came back to say he was sorry. He is your family. You trusted David more than your brother, that’s why you are having this problem now.

Lastly, the deed has been done. You are now pregnant, the solution is not running away from home. I know that the shame might be much for you especially if your school mates get to know, but, you have to overlook the shame. My dear, you shouldn’t be scared of your parents. The worst they can do is to scold you and give you a little punishment. I’m sure that they are going to help you through this. You have to go back home. Your parents would be worried sick about you. I’m sure your brother would be worried too. You have to return back home”.

As Mrs Seye was talking, Dammy was in tears. To her, going home wasn’t an option.

“My mom is going to kill me if I go back home”, Dammy said amidst her tears.

” No, she isn’t. I’m sure she would receive you back happily, trust me”, Mrs Seye said.

Dammy wasn’t convinced with that.

Mrs Seye saw that Dammy wasn’t comfortable with going back home, so, she turned to her and said, “I have a plan”.

Dammy eyes brightened and she asked, ” What’s the plan, ma”.
