[STORY] Road to Nowhere (Episode 21)

Episode 21.

Dammy got to the city late in the night. She decided to lodge in an hotel just for the night. She searched around and she soon got one.

Getting a room in the hotel was an herculean task, the receptionist gave her a questioning look because she looked very young. Everyone around wondered why a young girl with two traveling bags and a school bag would walk into a hotel.

“Good evening, how may I help you young girl”, The receptionist had asked.

” I need a single room” Dammy replied.

“Well, are you here with your parents or a relative?”.

” No, it’s just me”.

” So, how are you going to pay for a room?.

“Don’t worry about that. I have enough cash with me. I’ll be lodging for the night, How much is that?” Dammy asked.

” Did you have a fight with your parents or you are new in this city?” The receptionist asked concernedly.

” I’ll rather keep that confidential. So how much am I going to pay for the room?” Dammy replied.

She wasn’t ready for a chat with the receptionist, she was tired already as a result of the stressful journey and a search for an hotel.

The receptionist told her the price, she paid and got a key to a room.

She entered the room and the first thing she did was to bang on the bed. She was extremely tired. She rose up and opened her bag to get something to eat. She had bought some snacks and a soft drink while she was searching for an hotel. She ate the snacks like a hungry wolf. After eating, she lied down on her bed and said to herself, ” I don’t know if I took the right decision, but, I’m rest assured that everything is going to be fine. I don’t even know where I’m going tomorrow. I’m just going to walk around to see if I can get an employment as a maid nearby.

My past mistakes are haunting me now even though I’m born again now. I wished I had listened to my brother that day. I wish I had not gone to David’s house. He is somewhere enjoying himself now without knowing what I’m going through.
God, I know that I have disappointed you. I know have disappointed my parents and my brother also, please help me out of all these”, she prayed for some time and she slept off.

The rays of sunshine got into Dammy’s face. It was morning already. She did a morning prayer and went to the bathroom to clean up herself. After she was done, she dressed up and packed her belongings out of the hotel.

Dammy was back to the present. That was everything that happened to her. A tear escaped her face . She had been sitting beside the tree for close to an hour. She was completely tired. She didn’t know where to go.

She had watched in movies instances where rich people met children like her and adopted them. She wished something like that could happen to her, but, it was just a fantasy.

She decided to go around the luxurious houses on the street to
ask if they needed the help of a housemaid. As she stood up, she remembered something.

“I didn’t ask for the direction of God before I left home. I don’t know what might happen to me if I start going from house to house”, Dammy reasoned.

She murmured a little prayer for direction.

Immediately she finished her prayer and was set to go, she saw some flyers on the wall of a building near to her. The flyer was about a program that was to be held by a female activist, Mrs Seye Folabomi.

It suddenly dawned on Dammy that Mrs Seye Folabomi could help her. Her number was also on the flyer. Mrs Seye was a very great woman and Dammy enjoyed watching her programs on the television. Esther had once invited her to Mrs Seye’s program , but she declined then. Esther had explained everything that happened in the program to her and it was really interesting. Dammy wondered why the flyer was in that city and not her home city. She concluded that Mrs Seye could be a speaker in the program in that city .

Instantly, she felt like God had answered her prayers.

Dammy copied the number on her phone immediately.

Unfortunately for her, she had no SIM card on her phone. She carried her bag , held her traveling bags and started looking for a place to buy SIM card. Fortunately enough, she got one nearby.
She registered the SIM and inserted it into her phone.

She dialled Mrs Seye’s number excitedly, but, it was busy. She called the number five times again, but, it was still busy.

After calling many times, she decided to send a text message. She texted, “Hi ma’am. My name is Dammy and I need to speak to you urgently. I’m fifteen years old and I recently realized that I’m pregnant. I ran away from home yesterday and I’m in another city right now with no clue of where to go”.

It was more than two hours since Dammy sent the message. She kept checking her phone every minute. She had returned back to the tree she was sitting before and the tree served as a very good shade.

Suddenly, her phone notified her of a new message. She hurriedly checked the message, but, it was from the network.
She was really disappointed.

Some minutes later, her phone started ringing. Lo and Behold, the caller was Mrs Seye Folabomi . Dammy was so excited. She picked the call immediately.
