Pastor’s Second Wife

Episode 17.

I received a call from Deji very early in the morning. He was sobbing over the phone as he kept apologizing to me. He asked I met up with him at Isaac John’s street at exactly 10am.
First, I was shocked to have received such call from Deji. Why would Deji be begging me? Why would he be forming so repentant? What could possibly be going on?
All these questions flashed through my mind in split seconds as he was talking with me over the phone. He had long stopped seeing me as his wife and kicked me out of his house.
I only mustered some courage to tell him I wouldn’t be able to see him. He kept pleading, saying he wouldn’t take much time. Since he asked we met in an open space,i later agreed to meet with him. Within me, i knew all wasn’t cool and couldn’t help but sense some cynicism from his actions.
I found myself in a black and rickety wagon driven by Deji.
The music was so loud as he kept raising his voice trying to communicate with me. I wouldn’t know where he was taking me to. It was a very lonely road, much like a part way to the stream.
“Where are you taking me to?,” Deji !. I was beginning to feel terrified. I didn’t inform anyone about my sudden meeting with Deji.
We soon got to a point where strange men all dressed in white stopped us. Deji came down and was discussing with them while pointing at me. At that juncture, I knew I was in a serious danger. I already saw the signs…..
Not even a single human being did we see while we were coming…
I quickly opened the door and started running as far as my leg could Carry me. Those men in white started chasing me so vigorously.
As I was running, I woke up.
It was a dream afterall. I looked at the gray wall clock hanging on the wall in my room, it was 3am. Jesus!, that was a terrible nightmare.
My whole body was drenched in my own cold sweat.
I couldn’t sleep again as I kept praying and asking God to avert whatsoever danger that lied lurking.
Very early in the morning, I started feeling very feverish. I started running temperature and Shina couldn’t help the situation either. He kept crying and persistently disturbing.
I dropped Shina with Angela, Elder Omojola’s help to quickly rush to the clinic to get some pills or probably run a laboratory test.

An elderly matron who attended to me insisted I ran a test. She examined me manually and demanded I ran a test.
“don’t worry, i’d run a quick test for you and within few minutes the result would be out,” she persuaded me.
She had to say this after she checked my pulse, opened my mouth repeatedly and my eyes.
“congratulations my daughter,” I think you’re 4 weeks pregnant, “she said to me with a very big grin on her face after the result she ran came out positive.
Oh My God!
” What did she just say now?,” I rhetorically asked myself.
” Is everything ok?, “she asked as she saw that her supposed good news didn’t go down well with me.
“I’m ok ma, I falsely reassured her and walked out of the clinic moping aimlessly.
My son Shina is barley a year and few months and I am Pregnant for same criminal we call our pastor? No man had ever touched me since i started seeing this beast of Deji. He had got me pregnant again.
I’m finished. I wasn’t angry or afraid of what the church people would say, afterall, he is now my husband.
I was worried about how I would cope with raising two kids without much support, especially now that Deji and his wife had kicked me out of their house pending on the verdict of the church after the second DNA result is out.
This life is such a wicked and confusing place to reside I painfully said to myself as I flagged down a taxi to drop me home.
Inside the taxi, my phone rang and it was Sister Stella. I already saved her number after the last time she called. I felt like throwing the phone away. She was the last person i needed to talk to at that moment.
I immediately remembered my mum, she was the only person I could have spoken to or ran to for help and advice. Now, she was no more, no thanks to Pastor Deji.
Hot tears kept gushing down copiously down my cheek…
“Hello, Mercy, how’re you? where are you?,” she asked me faintly over the phone as if i was expecting her.
“i’m in lagos now,” Gbagada” to be precise,” she explained further whilst my mouth was still wide open in utter surprise.
“Oh, sister Stella,” i am fine.
Again, I lied….
I could be anything but nothing close to being fine. My whole tumultuous life had reached its flash point.
“eeeehm eeeehm…. I’m staying at Ogba,” i told her with my voice sounding so jittery.
“Ok dear, “I would be coming to see you tomorrow..
She told me as she asked for my address.
I didn’t know what to say to her. I couldn’t possibly tell her no neither was i sure i would like to invite her over to Elder Omojola’s house.
She was expecting me to sound enthusiastic. Definitely, she thought i missed her as much as she supposedly missed me.
“What would she say when she finally finds out i had a child for Deji and even pregnant for him again,”i quickly thought.
However, i mustered the courage to face this guilt once and for all. I gave her the address to come and visit me without even telling her whom I was squatting with.
She would definitely come with her twins to meet my son and also hear of my pregnancy with Same father of her kids….
It’s either now or never…..

To be continued……..
