Episode 09.

“Miss Su, Miss Su!” George said tauntingly as I sat down on the chair.

Just as expected, I was summoned into his office. I was only waiting for the moment to come sooner. I can’t figure out why it took so long.

My heart was almost pumping fast, but I resisted the fear that fought to possess me.

“The Lord has not given me that unclean spirit of fear! Get ye behind me!” I decreed inwardly and a stillness possessed me.

I smiled to myself, wowed by the power in God’s word. I placed my back on the chair and swung it slightly, like a princess that I am.

“Susan! Here’s your moment! Make us proud!” I said to myself.

“Yesterday, you insulted me!” George began but I interupted.

“It wasn’t intentional”.

“Wait, let me finish!” He held up his hand.

“You were not considerate of the kids around”.

“No you were the one who should have considered the kids!” I interrupted again.

“Susan, be quiet!” He said with a mischievous smile and I held my peace.

What was wrong with me? All he asks is to keep silent. Susan, calm down please.

“So I’ve made up my mind”, he continued.

“You are not going to work here anymore. That’s my final decision”. He said and turned to the laptop on his desk.

That’s it? I mean he didn’t even ask for my body before sacking me. This must be a joke. I can’t lose without giving him a piece of who I am.

“SUSAN! BEG HIM!” Came the gentle whisper.

“Beg? Me? That’s ridiculous!” I replied.

“BE FAST ABOUT IT”, Was his reply.

I knew the war had started and I was
not going to lose it. I must follow every single instruction from my commanding officer.

“Sir! Please don’t fire me. I promise to do anything you want!” I said and jerked at what I had just said.

He looked up and smiled at me.
That was what he was waiting for. That was what he wanted to hear all these while. I can’t believe it. This guy is a genius. It dawned on me that there was no sack letter given. It was a trick to trap me into fulfilling my deal with him. Wow! What a player!

“Actually, I wasn’t going to fire you”, he said grinning.

I smiled and pretended to be so excited.

“Thank you sir! I’m so grateful!” I said gasping in joy.

My drama was so real. Hmmmm, this guy doesn’t know I’m also a player. Let’s fool ourselves Mr George! I’m loving this game.

“I won’t fire you if only you can pay the price to retain your job”, he said and silence fell in the room.

“Sir, I don’t have enough money”, I said with a feigned sadness on my face. Susan, you’re such a genius!

“Who’s talking about money here? You should know what I’m referring to”. He replied.

“What are you referring to?” I asked, smiling inwardly.

“Susan, stop wasting my time. We had an agreement!” He said frowning slightly.

“Really, I can’t remember signing a contract with you. Are there any documents to remind me?” I feigned an ignorant face.

“Susan, you promised to be giving it to me”.

“Giving what to you?” I asked smiling inwardly.

He banged his fist on the table in anger. It made me flinch, but my laughter roared loudly within me. I didn’t know when a smile escaped my lips.

“So you are doing this on purpose?” He looked at me with a blazing eyes.
Sorry Mr George, you can’t scare me with those eyes. WOW! Jesus I’m so happy to be here. I never knew revenge is so sweet.

“Doing what on purpose?” I asked, maintaining my feigned surprise.

“So you decieved me, huh?”

“I’m not a liar! I’m a Christian!” I grinned.

“Shut up!” He barked.

I smiled at him and remained silent.
He smiled and looked into my eyes.

“Let’s make this game interesting. Do you want to keep your job or not?” He asked.

“Of course! I want to continue working for you and only you!” I said smiling and he laughed.

“Wow! I never knew you were so smart. In that case have this”, he said and threw a card at me.

“Pleasure spark hotel!” I read.

Suddenly, memories flashed. That was the same place Chioma went to the day she committed the abortion.

“Yes! Meet me there by 7pm”.

“Mr George, I’ll be very busy by that time. I don’t think I’ll be able to meet up. Besides, why teach your students in an hotel?” I said grinning.

“Susan! Don’t take me for a fool!”

“God forbid!”

“Shut up!”

“Yes sir!”
“I said shut up!”

“I’m shutting up already”.

“Shut up!”

I remained silent. God! I never knew this revenge would be so sweet. I’m having so much fun.

“Susan”, he smiled mischievously.

“Don’t start a war you cannot finish. Many of your kind came here and ended up on my bed. You would not be able to survive in this place”.

I grinned and sat up.

“Let’s see who would survive. Me or you! What you’re asking of me cannot happen. I have been bought by someone. Therefore, I glorify him with my body and my spirit which belongs to him”.

He have me a mock applause.

“Fables! Nice one! Now listen to me”, he said and stood up.

“I give you the whole of this week to flush your head of this stupidity and comply with me or else you would regret stepping into this school”.

I smiled and gave him a mock applause. He was surprised.

“Baba God! You no go carry last!” I said inwardly and stood up.

“On the contrary sir. You have the whole of this week to give your life to Jesus. Drop this baggage of sin you are carrying and be free. You’re suffering badly and it’s telling on you!” I replied.

“Young lady! I didn’t bring you here to insult me”.

“Come on! Don’t be so dramatic. Who’s insulting you? I’m telling you the truth about yourself, Mr George”.

“Truth! Nonsense! What do you know about me?” He grinned and sat down.

“George”, I said softly.

“Your are not who you really are. You want to help people. You want to love and stop hurting others. But you just don’t know how to get there.

Deep inside you, you’re a good man. You love being able to put smiles on the faces of others. But you just don’t see it happening.

So you settled for less. You began to gain pleasure in inflicting pain on your staffs and those around you. But deep inside of you, you cry for freedom.

That’s where Jesus comes in. He can make you that person you so yearn to become. You can be who you truly want to be. His grace is sufficient enough to help you”.

I saw softness in those cold eyes. Those blazing eyes, look blurred with tears as I spoke. I saw remorse on his face. Wow! God was at work.

Suddenly, it changed and the Devil inside him resurfaced.

“Now get out of my office!” He said pointing at the door.

“Sir!”

“I said leave!” He shouted.

I turned and walked towards the door, but felt my spirit nudging me to speak on. So I turned and went back.

I placed my hands on his table and leaned forward.

“Sometimes, you feel sorry. Yes! you do!”

“No!” He shook his head and turned his face away.

“Stop struggling with your creator. He’s been knocking on your heart for a long time. It’s time Mr. George! It’s time to open that door”.

He looked up at me, with those eyes, showing remorse.

“Yes! Thank you Jesus!

“It’s time! Please let him in! He gives peace. He can free you from that guilt that weighs heavy on you. You try to ignore him, deep within you, you know he’s there. He’s been knocking for a long time”.

I looked into his eyes and saw tears welling up. I was taken by those innocent looking eyes. I stared into them until all I could see were only his eyes.

“Thank you Jesus! I never knew this was why you sent me. He’s such a confused soul. And all I wanted was to kill him. Lord, you are truly merciful”, I said within me.

Suddenly, he threw a book at me. It landed on my face, striking my left eye.

“Jesus!” I groaned.

Where did my mind travel to. How could I had been out of this world not to notice a book was thrown at me.

“That serves you right”, he chuckled.

I covered my eye with my palms as the pain eased. I turned to look at him and saw a bit of worry in his expression. Immediately our eyes met, he hid it and grimaced.

I smiled and wiped the few tears that escaped my eyes.

“Like I was saying”, I continued.

“Are you mad?” He shouted.

“No! Please calm down! I don’t bite”.

“Get out!” He said and threw another hard cover book like the first one at me.

I ducked and he missed. I had to leave now. So I ran for the door as I saw him picking up another book.

“You have this week to make up your mind!” He said as I shut the door as though I didn’t hear him.

I smiled and exhaled.

“That was awesome!” I said in a whisper.

“Mr George! You’ve just met a slay Queen! A different kind of slay Queen!” I said as I walked back to the staff’s office.
