Episode 01.

I was so tired in the scotching sun that’s heating me so bad. I ran under a bridge and waited for some minutes wishing it would go down, but still it didn’t go down I decided to enter it like that and started running with my big stomach. yes! I’m 5month pregnant.

so, while at the stand some passerby looks at me nodding their heads while some persuading me to leave the sun and find a shelter because of my condition. I smiled at them showing my appreciation and at last a taxi stopped in which I entered and felt relaxed and at peace after waiting for long under the sun.

on getting home I was surprised seeing an unknowing face in my house I look puzzle on who she might be. she greeted me in which I responded looking her from head to toe.
she looks like those village girls with her off shoulder top and long skirt that looks like gown on her. I smiled and headed to my room.
I know probably well that’s my husband that brought her.

“who is she ? why is she here? for what?

I kept asking and seeking for an answer within myself. my husband came out as I was about entering our room, he collected my bag patting my hair as I made my way to the bed to sit .

“Dear, I met a girl as I entered who is she? I asked pulling my bra off.

“well, don’t you think you should have a shower first and relaxed before getting to know all that.

He said while I looked at him surprisingly.

“Are you seriously serious right now. I asked him frowning at him.

“you know what I don’t like is putting me on suspense. just tell me who she is now before I change at you .

my husband olumide look up at me and came to my side patting a kiss on my forehead in which I cleaned off immediately, he looked at me in disbelief on my action.

“wait, don’t tell me you cleaned my love off because I don’t want to tell you about the girl now? he asked standing at my front with his hands besides me.

I nodded to his questions in which he sighed softly and went out and in a minute came back with a glass of water and to my surprise seeing my mother-in-law came in with him.
I stood up immediately in excitement and wanted to knee down but was held up by her.

“no! my dear, you shouldn’t stress yourself. I know when you came back. but I was in the bathroom having a shower.

she said smiling at me. she draw my husband reading chair to my front to sit and started praising me I was flattered on the sudden praises while my husband stood halfway to the door hailing me behind her.
I bursted into laughter in which my mother inlaw joined.

“My daughter I’m so glad that you’re doing well….but, it’s one thing I don’t like you doing. she said while massaging my legs.

“And what is that mama? I asked.

“you see, my daughter. this days once a woman is pregnant there are some certain things she needs to refrain from.

I nodded in response.

“ehn, ehn you’re getting me. so Biko for the sake of my coming grandchild I want you to minimize how you stress and overdo some things for now.

“oh mama! but I don’t usually stress my….

“don’t say that love. you do stress yourself. my husband said cutting me shut.

“I know my son. she won’t want to admit it. well I brought a girl for you.

“the one in the sitting room? I asked.

“bééni….ómó dàdà ni é. see, as you’re seeing that girl, she’s so hardworking ehnnn and is anywhere you tell her to stay she will be.

“I see…

I said while nodding to her words.

“but ókó mi. she said in a way Yoruba appraise their love ones.

“what is it ma? I asked.

“you will have to be teaching her Yoruba oo if you can. but is not mandatory o because is only pidgin she can speak.

“oh! that’s not an issue mama so far you are the one that brought her I’m pleased with it. I said smiling at her.

“thank you my dear. I know you will surely like her. or are you not happy that I bring her Olumide? she asked my husband who in returned answered in positive reaction of liking the idea of bringing the girl.

“mààmi, it’s really good ooo and I will be relieved from some mining work at late hour. he said going out to bring the girl.

in some minutes he came in with her in which she was smiling and I was wondering why she’s smiling when nothing is funny at that moment.

“how are you? I asked.

“I dey fine ooo aunty. I like as you fine well…well your pikin sef go fine be that. as you bin enter before I con bin dey look say shey na you be….

I was looking at her in confused way, like how could someone who is just seeing somebody be talking like a parrot like this. I was snap back from my thought when my mother inlaw shut her up for talking too much.

“you no dey look face. shey na so you go dey talk anyhow for here. you better take your time ooo no use talk come finish my pikin wife oo. my mother inlaw said looking at her disgustingly knocking her head in which she moved back angrily.

I was surprised seeing her eyes changed to blue. at that moment, I screamed covering my face with a throw pillow that was beside me.
to my greatest surprised our wall clock fell to the floor and broke into pieces.

“Mama! Mama!!! look at her eyes!!!

I screamed calling my mother inlaw to see what I saw. she and my husband checked and didn’t see anything. I was surprised that they didn’t see it.

“my dear, it might be seeing things differently because of your condition. anyways I have caution her and she won’t do it again. she said shouting at her to apologise in which she did.

my husband took the wall clock out .

“all this things sef, I don’t know why they don’t last. just imagine how it fell and break just like that. he said while taking it away.

my mother inlaw stood up and tells me to go and shower that she will prepare me food that I shouldn’t stress myself. the girl followed her and immediately I remembered I didn’t ask for her name. I called her back in which she turns bending her back towards me.

“what is your name? I asked going towards my wardrobe to pull my cloth.

“my name na princess Adowe.

“what princess is that. I laughed at her name in which she smiles.

I wonder why she is christened princess when she doesn’t look like one.

“wait, what’s the meaning of Adowe? I asked.

“I nor know ooo but very soon you go no. she said while leaving immediately.

I was surprised by what she just said and wondered the kind of girl my mother inlaw brought as maid.

“I just hope this girl is not what I’m thinking sha. I said undressing to go for shower.
