[STORY] DIARY OF A MAD IGBO WOMAN (Episode 14)

Episode 14.

The maid served Ada her favourite meal, Fufu and Oha soup and served the Adedejis rice and vegetable soup.

Dorcas frowned as she observed Ada’s meal. “Why is Ada’s meal different?”.

Chief Adedeji shrugged. “I specially ordered the maid to prepare something special for her”.

Dorcas snatched Ada’s plate of meal. “No one is special here. I won’t tolerate the preferential treatment you give her in this house! She is not the only one that wants to eat fufu and Oha soup!”.

“…but she is the only Igbo person here”Mrs Adedeji cautioned.

“She is married to a Yoruba man so she is also a Yoruba woman. There is no discrimination”. Bayo corrected his mother.

Dorcas leaned to eat the meal but chief Adedeji snatched the plate of food from her.

“Father, please allow Dorcas to eat the meal. I am very fine with the rice and vegetable”. Ada told chief Adedeji politely.

“She can’t eat the meal. The meal was specially made for you. I don’t break my principle”. He dropped the meal before Ada and looked up at the maid. “Get another plate of soup and fufu for Dorcas”.

Ada waited until they got another plate of food for Dorcas before she began to eat her plate of food.

(Scene two)

Bayo planted kisses on her lips and forehead as they got to their room.

Tears filled Ada’s eyes. “Thank you for trusting me, Bayo”.

“I trust myself. You are a part of me Ada”.

She chuckled. “I am your special Yoruba wife”.

He laughed loudly. “My Mrs Adedeji”.

“Ayo mi”.

“Nothing will separate me from you at all”.

She took off his jacket. “Your parents now like me. I feel relieved”.

“I knew it won’t be hard at all to finally convince them”.

“I want to enjoy this love that I had secretly craved and have finally found. I want to believe in this love and be happy again”.

He kissed his wife.

(Scene three)

Bayo striked the ball into the hole and smiled to himself as it hit the target.

He was a master of all balls.

“You still come to the mainland to catch cruise”. Daniel said from behind and stood beside him.

Bayo fumed at him. “What on earth do you want this time?”.

“I want us to be friends again”.

Bayo gasped. “Liar…”.

“It is genuine. I miss our friendship Bayo”.

They smiled at each other.

(Scene four)

Ufeoma rushed breathlessly into chief Adedeji’s study room. She gave him a green book that had a hard cover. “This contains a list of the slush funds of past governors of Lagos state. Tyler is the one that has the power to make anyone a governor just like he did the last three governors after the 1999 change of government. Tyler is looking wildly for this green book. My dad was supposed to give Sanni this list tomorrow to give Tyler so that Tyler will make him governor that instant”.

Tears of joy filled chief Adedeji’s eyes. “I will never forget this Ufeoma”. He said excitedly as he accepted the green book.

She smiled sheepishly. “How about the infertility portion? Was Ada able to take it?”.

Chief Adedeji smiled to himself. “Ada is now a barren woman”.

Ufeoma danced excitedly. “In three months time, we will call a doctor to carry out a fertility test on her and the couple will be separated”.

Chief Adedeji kept the green book carefully in his shelf. “You have to leave before anyone sees you here”. They both walked out of his study room. He watched her go down the stairs and when she was a good way off, he walked into the room he was sharing with his wife.

Fred Bakare who had been eavesdropping on their conversation sneaked into chief Adedeji’s study room and collected the green book from the shelf.

He hid the green book in his jacket pocket and sneaked out.
