Episode 39.

Immediately the maid opened the gate and left the compound, Obiora went inside the gate house, brought out a Ghana must go bag and went to work. He went inside Nicole’s house, opened the bag and brought out a small clay pot which he placed at the middle of the sitting room. Still holding the bag, he climbed the stairs to Nicole’s room. He brought out another clay pot and placed it beside the entrance of the room. Gently, he opened the door and entered. Nicole sat on the bed with her left leg bound to the bed. As soon as she saw Obiora, she shook the bed and began scream.

Not minding her, he brought out the third small clay pot and started incantation. Suddenly, Nicole became calm, and he dropped the pot on the floor. Smiling, he brought out what he needed for the rituals.

———————————–

Eghosa parked his car beside the house. He has been honking , but the security man didn’t open the gate. Looking at his time, he shook his head and came out of the car.

“This is just 10:25pm!, Obiora can’t be so deep in sleep”

He hit the small gate and it gave way. Surprised, he pushed it and entered. He was surprised that the gate wasn’t locked. He peeped into the gatehouse, but Obiora wasn’t there. Fear gripped him. He felt strangeness in the atmosphere and he began to rush inside. He was shocked when he saw the pot in the sitting room.

“Blood of Jesus!” He screamed. “What’s going on?”

With quick alacrity, Eghosa climbed the stairs to Nicole’s room. He discovered that Obiora had already unlocked the chains binding Nicole’s leg and hand. She lay on the bed with legs spread apart.

Obiora had already climbed the bed about to rape her.

“Jesus!”

He pushed Obiora from her and he fell to the other side of the bed. He stood up and tried to run but Eghosa blocked the door.

“What did you do to her? You unchained her because I gave you the keys before I travelled. Ahhh Obiora”

Obiora looked at him with contempt. There was no way he could withstand Eghosa in a fight, for Eghosa was more muscular, taller and has stamina.

“I have not done anything yet”

“I left her in your care and you want to use her for rituals. God!, What is this world turning into? Someone that employed you and treat you nice. Why is she so dull?” What did you do to her.

“I…I.. used charm to quieten her spirit. There was no way only me could have subdued her with my physical strength.”

“Hmmm”

“Alright, carry your sacrifice and leave this compound. There’s no way I will allow you carry out your evil”

“Nooo!, I cannot touch the pots. I am not supposed to touch them the second time”

“Why not?, You can’t leave them here. All the rubbish you kept here, pack them”

Obiora refused and started making incantations to subdue Eghosa but he received a terrible slap on the face so hard that he almost lost his balance.

“Nobody was supposed to see me. I was supposed to sleep with her, use the handkerchief in this pot to clean her face. I was supposed to return the handkie to the pot and all the pots would vanish, but you have spoil the whole thing. Her blood was supposed to enter the pots too” Obiora lamented.

Eghosa staggered and rested his back on the door.

“Where’s the maid?”

“She isn’t home and not coming till tomorrow”

Eghosa whistles.

“No wonder the bible says that the heart of man is desperately wicked, who can know it?. I am going about looking for solution for her, you are busy plotting to destroy her. The maid also left her. No problem, gather all these fetish things and leave this compound now”

Shocked by the whole thing, Obiora hesitated looking at the pot with fear then carried the pots in trembling hands. He placed it in the bag and with Eghosa behind him, he picked the pot close to the door and sitting room. The native doctor’s warning ringing in his ears, he began to cry.

Eghosa ensured he carried all his pots and escorted him out of the compound. He didn’t allow Obiora enter the gate house.

As Obiora stepped out, Eghosa opened the big gate and drove the car into the compound. After ensuring the gate is secured, he returned inside. He went to Nicole’s room and secured the chains on her legs, then fed her.

Very exhausted from the journey, he went on his knees and began to pray before crashing on the chair in the sitting room.

Obiora got to a junction and dropped the bag there beside him. He sighted a locked shop so he crossed over and sat there crying. His hope of becoming rich has been dashed. He doesn’t know the consequence yet but he knew doom looms around him.

There was no way he could go home because he had no money with him. Eghosa didn’t allow him take his belongings.

He decided to sleep outside the shop, then by morning return to Eghosa to collect his belongings.

Just then, he began hearing strange voices and the faces of the people he sold to ritualist loomed before him. He blocked his ears with his fingers, but to no avail. Afraid, he stood up to run but hands dragged him back. His screams filled the night. A trailer was coming and the hands began pushing him towards the road. He saw it coming with speed yet he could do nothing when those hands pushed him towards the trailer. He was crushed to death.

The trailer driver did not bother to stop even though he knew he had killed a person.

———————————–

Eghosa woke with a start. He looked at his time, it was almost 3:30am. Stretching incessantly, he left the chair where he slept and lay on the floor to worship God that morning. Then he proceeded to check on Nicole. She was just sitting on the bed still dull. Maybe she did not sleep at all. With the maid absent, he helped her change her clothes and then feed her. Nicole was not talking or screaming. Her calmness even worried Eghosa. After feeding her, Eghosa held her hands and began to pray violently.

He was still shocked that Obiora almost used her for rituals.

Since the program was to start by 11am, he wanted to leave very early. He went to the fridge and picked what he needed for the journey and then left the compound with Nicole. He ensured that the compound was locked before driving out.

———————————–

Itohan and Nosa sat before Pastor David and his wife Zinna in their office. The vigil was over and those who lives in the environment had started leaving. Pst David and his wife counselled both of them and prayed with them too.

“God has given you a good wife Brother Nosa, stick to her. Proverbs 6:27-29 gives us a vivid description of what happened to you”

Zinna opened her bible and read from it.

Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned? Can one go upon hot coals, and hit feet not be burned? So he that goeth in to his neighbour’s what: whosoever toucheth her shall not be innocent.”

God’s word cannot be broken”

Zinna and her husband spoke extensively on the bible verses they read until Itohan and Nosa left.

That morning, as they returned home, Nosa was very quiet. He was grateful that the mercy of God located him.

Apart from his wife, he didn’t know Iya Folake and Taiye who were in the car. He noticed that Efosa kept glancing at him. He refused to lock eyes with him because he felt ashamed.

His wife, too excited, placed her hands on his. When they got home, Itohan took him straight to the bathroom, then serve him food. As he ate she began to weep silently.

“You’re crying”

“Na tears of joy Nosa. Your deliverance be like dream for my eyes.”

Itohan went to Iya and hugged the elderly woman. She thanked her and Taiye.

“God has given you victory Iya Efosa. Let me tell you, God has always been with you and his mercy has prevailed in your life. This is the time to hold unto God not only when there are challenges”

Itohan left the compound to look for the woman who gave her the flyer. Surprisingly, the woman had relocated.

“To where na?” She asked a woman in the compound.

“I don’t know oo. She told us God used someone to open door for her. She pack yesterday”

“Aah!. God go bless her anywhere wey she pack go”

“Amen oo” The woman responded.

Itohan went back home, sat on the chair and soon slept off.
