[STORY] DEADLY DESIRE (Episode 20)

Episode 20.

Efosa returned from school to meet commotion in the house. Itohan had been feverish and when she left the bed, it was straight to the toilet to vomit. She was very weak and tired and she wished Efosa was at home to assist her. She left the toilet to the sitting room.

Nicole and Nosa were already there. She stood and watched him cutting Nicole’s nails.

“I no well Nosa. E be like sey I get malaria, I wan go hospital. E get as my body dey do me” She told him.

“Go! What are you waiting for?” Nosa told her.

“I no get money. Abeg give me money make I take rush go there” She pleaded.

“Shut up! Where will he get money from? Did you see any money tree in this house? Darling, please tell her to leave my presence”

“Itohan did you hear her? Get out of this place jare”

“Get out!” Nicole screamed.

Itohan dragged her feet out of their presence. She returned to her room and began to weep. Suddenly, she dried her face and returned to the sitting room.

“That thing wey you use to control my husband go soon clear. God go scatter that juju. See Nicole, I no go fight you again. From today, you go see how God go deal with you. By Himself, He go disgrace you and everybody go see am” She told Nicole pointing at her.

Nicole laughed at her as she walked to her room.

“Come back here Itohan. Nobody use juju on me. You are just jealous that I love her more than you”

“Don’t mind her darling”

While he was talking, he received notifications. He stopped talking and shouted.

“Aaah! Someone is withdrawing my money ooo”

Nicole snatched the phone from him.

“Hey! Who is doing this. Call your bank!”

By the time the bank would respond, N100k had been withdrawn from the account. Nosa rushed into his room and started looking for his ATM card.

“Your useless son must have taken it” Nicole told him.

Nosa bounced into Itohan’s room and dragged her out of the chair. The surprised Itohan was confused.

“You sent your son to steal my ATM card and withdraw my money”

Before she would respond, he had started beating her with Nicole encouraging him to do so. Such was the commotion Efosa met when he entered the house, that late evening. He was drenched by rain.

“Where is my ATM” Nosa thundered stretching his hand. Efosa gave him without any remorse. And so, Nosa started slapping and hitting him. Efosa tried to dodge the blows.

“Where is my money?”

“I have used it. I paid my school fees and sent money to my sister”

Nosa was enraged.

“Such audacity, you have no respect for me”

He kept hitting him. Itohan cried and begged him.

“Forgive him please”

He pushed her and she fell.

“I didn’t ask him to steal. Please don’t hit him again”

“Send them out of my house” Nicole screamed.

Itohan begged and cried, but both Nicole and Nosa were deaf to her pleas. Enraged like a mad dog, Nosa pushed Itohan and Efosa out of the house. Before Itohan could walk to the gate, she was already drenched and cold. They stayed with the security man until the rain stopped. They returned to the house to apologize but the door was not opened. Nosa eventually came out and chased them with a cutlass. If not for the security man, Nosa would have killed his wife.

Nicole stood at the entrance of the house laughing and cursing.

“Stupid illiterate woman. I don’t know how you managed to marry her”

“I am sorry Nicole. She deceived me. Now I have realized my mistake. You are the only one I see”

Nicole rested her head on his chest for a while, before he held her hand and they walked into house with so much satisfaction written on their faces.

“There will now be peace” Nicole said as she sat on Nosa’s legs

“Why don’t we lockup this place and move to the other side tomorrow” Nosa thought about it for a while and agreed.

They left the sitting room to their room. Nicole helped Nosa to pack some of his things. The next day, though still raining, Nosa and Nicole instructed the gateman and drove out of the compound.

Itohan and her son stood outside the compound of Pastor Martins Idehen’s house. She was already shivering from the cold. Efosa shook the gate twice before it was opened by a security man. They greeted and asked of the pastor. Just as he was about responding, he left them to open the main gate for the pastor to drive in.

Pastor Martins stepped down and instructed the security man to allow them in. He was so excited to see them. The pastor ushered them into his house but they would not seat, for their clothes were still wet from the rain.

Itohan narrated everything to the pastor and he gave a deep sigh.

“We no get anywhere to go” She said. “I nor get any money and I no know wetin to do”

“Don’t worry! When my wife returns from work, we shall see what we can do”

Itohan thanked him. Itohan and her son were ushered into one of the rooms. The Pastor lives in a three bedroom apartment. He gave her one of his oversized T – shirt and his wife’s wrapper. Efosa had to make do with one of the Pastor’s son clothes.

Itohan and her son were in the dinning room eating when Mrs Idehen walked in. She was surprised. She welcomed them and sat with them in the dinning room. She listened as Itohan narrated her ordeal in the hands of Nicole and Nosa.

“Wonders will never end oo. If not that my eyes were opened, one stupid sister would have snatched my husband from me. Whenever there is counselling, I am right there with him” She said laughing

“Hmmm!”

“Anyway you are welcome”

She left the sitting room to her room, while Itohan continued with her food. She felt so tired and weak and wanted to rest. Just when she stood up, she started vomiting. She couldn’t control herself. The maid helped her to the bathroom, then returned to clean the mess on the tiled floor.

“I no well” She told them. “I just want sleep” She excused herself and returned to the room to sleep.

In the bedroom, Mrs Idehen Martins frowned. She was not excited as she was when she first returned from work.

“We are taking risk oo. If anything happens to this woman we would be in trouble”

“Relax honey! Nothing will happen. She is tired because she has been under the rain”

“Hmmm! That woman is pregnant”

“And so what? Let them spend the night here, tomorrow I will go to see her husband”

She looked at him bewildered.

“Yes! I will talk to her as a man and as a pastor”

“Alright”

“Let’s go see her and pray”

By the time they entered the room, Itohan was already fast asleep. Efosa was still in the sitting room watching television with the Pastor’s children.

In the morning, Itohan was briefed about the decision to go visit her husband. There was just no other cloth that could fit her in the house, except the wrapper and oversized T – shirt. Pastors wife could not go with them because she had to go to work.

Nicole was beside her car waiting for Nosa to come out . She watched in wonder as Pastor Idehen and Itohan stepped out of the car. Nicole removed the glasses she wore and laughed.

“What have we got here?” She said

Pastor greeted but she refused to respond.

“I don’t need your greeting. Get this woman and a thief of a son out of my house” She screamed.

“I am here to see her husband”

“And I am here. Ooh, I remember you pastor”. Nosa said coming towards them.

“Please I want you to reconcile with your wife. Whatever she did, forgive her”

“Darling can we start going” Nicole said.

“Sure!”

Itohan began to plead and cry

” I no get anywhere to go. Abeg”

She went to Nicole and knelt in front of her

“You be woman like me. With my condition na where I go fit go? Just allow me stay. I no go quarrel or fight with you. Abeg”

Nicole kept screaming.

“Enter the car let’s go ”

Nosa entered the car and drove to the gate.

“When these people leave, don’t ever open my gate for them again” He instructed the gateman.

“Alright sir”

Nicole and Nosa drove out of the compound. Efosa helped his mother up. On the way back, Itohan wept.
