Sola Sobowale & Ireti Doyle Play Fearless Rioters In The Teaser For ‘1929’
The Nigerian film industry is seeing tremendous growth, and the range of films being produced is widening every day. We’ve seen the industry expand from mostly rom-coms to faith-based films like God Calling, and, now, a period film starring Ireti Doyle & Sola Sobowale, 1929.
Based on the Aba Women’s Riots — which was recently made into an acclaimed play — 1929 follows the Ikot Abasi women’s unrest in the same year that claimed the lives of many female protesters across the eastern part of Nigeria.
The revolt broke out when thousands of Igbo women from the Bende District, Umuahia and other places in eastern Nigeria traveled to the town of Oloko to protest against the local chiefs, who were restricting the role of women in the government.
Produced by Film One, and starring Sola Sobowale, Ireti Doyle, Sam Dede, Becky Odungide, Enobong Ekwere, Ndifreke Umoren, Nancy Bassey, Uduak Odungide and many more, the film will be released on April 19, and we can’t wait to watch it.
