Sanwo-Olu commence online campaign, holds Twitter chats
Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Lagos State, has unveiled plans that will run an inclusive government and tackling problems in housing, environment and transport among others.
The APC governorship candidate disclosed his plans yesterday in a live and interactive #ForAGreaterLagos #LagosTweets chat on Twitter, popular social media platform.
Sanwo-Olu said that one of his strong tenets would be running an inclusive government by opening a citizen engagement platform that would allow people to present ideas that would make Lagos greater.
Answering questions on his plans for Lagos, Sanwo-Olu said his years of private sector and public sector experience, and his passion to make Lagos a better place that all would be proud to call home, are what he would bring to office.
Stressing further on economy and running a transparent government, he said, “My experience as a banker, commissioner for budget and planning equipped me with the skills and discipline to run an open budget. Lagosians will not be burdened with unnecessary taxes. A deliberative budgetary process will be operational.”
Sanwo-Olu addressed the issue of traffic and the tanker drivers parked on Lagos roads. He agreed that Lagos needed a multi-faceted transportation system and promised to resuscitate the light rail system when he comes to power.
“We are currently mining the necessary data and studying the various traffic gridlock points in Lagos. Over 50 points have been identified. We will unfold a comprehensive traffic management plan that will greatly reduce travel time. Firstly, we would need to stop the trucks and tankers menace. We will install street lights on the dark spots and ensure the police have regular pin-down patrols.”
He added: “One of the priority pillars of the Greater Lagos vision is transportation and traffic management. We will partner to raise funds to fix the economically viable Badagry roads.”
Another issue that was raised by a Twitter user was house rent in Lagos.
Sanwo-Olu responded that relevant agencies would be tasked to look into the rent problem but the all-time solution is provision of affordable housing. He added that the state policy on housing would seek a synergy with that of the federal government towards making more people home owners.
