Osun 2018: I’m Optimistic APC Will Win Osun Gov. Poll –Aregbesola
Osun State Governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, has said he is optimistic that the All Progressives Congress will win the September 22 governorship election in the state.
Aregbesola, according to a statement made available to our correspondent in Osogbo on Wednesday by his media adviser, Mr. Sola Fasure, said this at the praying ground during Tuesday’s Eid-El-Kabir.
The governor, represented by his Chief of Staff, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, who is also the governorship candidate of the APC, said the ruling party would win because of the impact the party had made on the lives of the people of the state.
He said, “As the governorship election is coming up, I implore our people to shun violence and anything that can compromise the electoral process.
”We are optimistic that our party, the APC, will emerge victorious, going by what we have seen in terms of overwhelming support and enthusiasm displayed by the residents of the state.
“We enjoin citizens to be law-abiding, to maintain the peace and move away from any act capable of undermining peace and tranquility in the country.”
He added, “We should not see the election as a do-or-die affair, but rather another opportunity to elect someone that will lead us for the next four years and continue to build on the already established foundation of good legacies of the Aregbesola administration.
“We must eschew violence and do everything possible to complement the electoral process in such a way that our democratic culture will be strengthened and taken to greater heights.
“Everybody should have the opportunity to decide and elect whoever he or she wants to be his or her leader without being intimidated. As we all know that our state is known for peace, I want our people to maintain this peace before, during and after the election.”
The Chief Imam of Osogbo, Sheik Musa Animasahun, urged Nigerians to embrace peace, love, togetherness and good neighbourliness.
Animasahun who is also the President, League of Imams and Alfas in Osun, urged Muslims to always be conscious of the last day and see worldly things as ephemeral.
He warned politicians against politics of acrimony, urging them to use their positions to impact on the lives of the people.
The Chief Imam appealed to Nigerians, particularly Muslims, to be good ambassadors of their various societies.
