Nyesom Wike lashes out at PDP governors for backing Siminalayi Fubara
Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has promised to prevent anyone from seizing control of the Rivers State PDP organization.
Any governor of the Peoples Democratic Party who attempted to meddle in the party’s affairs in a South-South state would face political chaos, according to the former governor of Rivers State.
At their August 23 meeting in Taraba State, the PDP governors discussed the turmoil that was roiling the party in the state and reaffirmed their backing for Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The PDP Governors’ Forum, in a communiqué read by its Chairman and Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, called for a review of the party congress outcome to restore Fubara’s leadership role in the state.
Speaking at the PDP secretariat in Port Harcourt, the state capital, on Saturday during the party’s state congress, Wike urged the PDP governors to stay clear of the party’s affairs in Rivers.
He said, “Let me assure all of you, not while we live will anybody take away the structure of the PDP from us. But let me tell people, I hear some governors who say they will take over the structure and give it back to somebody.
“I feel sorry for those governors, for I will put fire in their states.” You claim you don’t desire peace when God gives it to you; anything you see, you take.
“Because I’ve heard they’re getting big heads and might try to influence my state, and they also received some money from a signature bonus.” I can accomplish the same thing in your state, so get ready.
“I don’t care if you are from Bauchi; as far as I know, you are trying to claim Rivers State; in that case, your hand will burn and you won’t be able to sleep in your state.”
The Rivers PDP has been in crisis following the fallout between Wike and his predecessor, who was absent at the congress.
In attendance alongside the minister were some serving and past lawmakers at both federal and state levels, former council chairmen, and other party faithful.
