NCC Chairman: Tonye Jaja Breaks Silence On Alleged Sack By Presidency
The Chairman of the Nigerian Copyright Commission, Dr. Tonye Jaja, has debunked his alleged sack by President Muhammadu Buhari, adding that he’s yet to receive any communication to that effect.
Recall, we here at ANE had earlier reported that President Muhammadu Buhari sacked Jaja
Jaja, in a statement made available and sent to All Naija Entertainment on Tuesday morning said he has instructed his lawyers;Mr. Femi Falana, SAN and Mr. Kanu Godwin Agabi, SAN, (a former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice of the Federal Republic of Nigeria) to ascertain and handle this situation.
It will be recalled that Jaja has always insisted that federal character and transparency must be followed to the letter.
A source however hinted that, “Due to his efforts to enforce transparency, due process at NCC and his testimony against Mr. John Asein at the Code of Conduct Bureau, Dr. T. C. Jaja became a target”
To confirm if the letter of Jaja’s removal came from the President, this medium will submit a request for confirmation by way of the Freedom of Information Act.
Below is the full text of the press statement.
PRESS STATEMENT:
My attention has been drawn to a certain information circulating on online newspapers and social media.
Please kindly note that according to sections 35 and 36 of the Copyright Act, 1999, it is only the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria that can appoint and terminate the appointment of whomsoever is the Chairman of the Governing Board of the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC).
I have not received any such letter from His Excellency Mr President.
There was no query against me, there was no previous complaint against me… therefore, I was informed that there’s a possibility that the said letter of removal may have been forged and the President may not be aware of it… therefore, let us wait until we receive confirmation from the Office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
I have just issued instructions to my lawyers, Mr. Femi Falana, SAN and Mr. Kanu Godwin Agabi, SAN, (a former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice of the Federal Republic of Nigeria) to ascertain and handle this situation.
