Diego Simeone admits to following club orders with Antoine Griezmann
Diego Pablo Simeone has put an end to the debate surrounding Antoine Griezmann’s famous clause, whereby Atletico Madrid were to pay 40 million euros to Barca at the end of his loan spell if he plays 45 minutes in half of the games the Frenchman is available to the coach.
Asked at a press conference about the striker’s situation, Simeone dispelled all doubts.
“You’ve known me for 10 years. I’m a club man and I always will be,” he said.
With this answer, the Argentinian confirms what has been an open secret for weeks: Atlético do not want to pay the buy-back clause for the French player.
The colchoneros want to keep Griezmann as their player once his loan is over, but they are not willing to pay 40 million euros to Barça.
Simeone has been using the Frenchman as a substitute player, coming off the bench from the 60th minute in the three La Liga games played so far.
This situation does not satisfy either side, as Barça are looking to get rid of the Frenchman and make the 40 million euros established by contract in the purchase option.
‘Atleti’ are limited when it comes to fielding a key player, who in fact, has already scored two goals in the three times he has been on the pitch this season.
