Buhari lauds ex-ECOWAS commission chief on Africa’s unity
The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), Monday, praised the outgoing President of the Economic Community of West African States Commission, Jean-Claude Brou, for showing great commitment to the unity of the bloc and the West African sub-region.
According to a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, President Buhari said this during a farewell audience with Brou at the State House, Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.
The statement was titled ‘President Buhari thanks Kassi Brou for united ECOWAS.’
Thanking him for the role he had played in the unity of the sub-regional body, the President said, “You showed great commitment to the unity of ECOWAS, and of the sub-region.
“Your tenure has been very successful, and I wish you and the family more successes ahead.”
Buhari noted that in spite of challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic, insecurity, and political tension in some countries, Kassi Brou and his team at the ECOWAS Commission “showed capacity and patience, and dealt with all the issues.”
He hoped that Brou’s successor would study what made him succeed, for the good of the sub-regional body.
The exiting ECOWAS Commission President thanked Buhari for the support given in the past four years, “particularly at the time of great challenges like the COVID-19, and political instability in some West African countries.”
He also lauded all ECOWAS leaders as well as Nigerian ministers who made his tour of duty successful.
