Perry Farrell ‘getting help’ after on-stage punch up during reunion tour

Perry Farrell, the lead singer of Jane’s Addiction, is “getting help” following his shocking on-stage brawl with guitarist Dave Navarro during their reunion tour.

At the band’s September 13 performance in Boston, Massachusetts, fans were in shock when frontman Perry Farrell, 65, punched a bandmate after a heated argument before leaving the stage.

The reason for the singer’s outburst has now been revealed by his wife Etty Lau, and the remaining dates of Jane’s Addiction’s reunion tour have been cancelled.

In an Instagram post, Lau, 49, shared the artist is taking time to heal and reflect following the incident.

Sharing a picture that simply states ‘love, kindness, compassion, grace’, Lau wrote in the caption: ‘Beyond grateful and so very humbled we are, to all the dears that have taken the time to send us such beautiful words of love and support – checking in over and over again to make sure we are well taken care of. Offering love and compassion, words of kindness, and even your homes for us to escape to…

‘Like attracts like. Kindness attracts kindness. As you know, Perry is the gentlest of souls. We are equally astonished at Perry’s physical outburst as you are – but you must know that Perry must had been pushed to his absolute limit.. to that end we apologize (sic).’

She continued: ‘We are taking a bit of time to ourselves, to reflect and to heal. Perry already has appointments with a otolaryngologist and a neurologist. If you know and love Perry well, you know there’s no need for me to address the other false narratives. Our souls know.

‘With all of your love, kindness, compassion and support, you know, Perry will persevere.. He will recover. He will be happy again. He will once again be able to share his music, vision and artistry – unbridled.’

Lau concluded: ‘Make no mistake when he’s ready he will take another giant leap over obstacles to make us laugh, think, while changing the world together. We can rejoice together then. And you will know, we would not have been able to do it without you.’

The band, behind hits such as Jane Says and Mountain Song, commenced their comeback tour earlier this year, making it the first time they have all been on stage together in 14 years.

Just four months after the announcement, Farrell and Navarro’s onstage fight derailed the tour as the Mountain Song hitmakers announced their remaining shows would not go ahead.

‘To all the fans, The band have made the difficult decision to take some time away as a group. As such, they will be cancelling the remainder of the tour,’ the band said in a statement.

‘Refunds for the cancelled dates will be issued at your point of purchase – or if you purchased from a third-party resale site like StubHub, SeatGeek, etc, please reach out to them direct. Thank you, Jane’s Addiction.’

Navarro issued another statement shortly after on Instagram, also signed off by bandmates Eric Avery and Stephen Perkins in which they said they were stopping the tour due to the ‘mental health difficulties’ of Farrell.

They said: ‘Due to a continuing pattern of behavior and the mental health difficulties of our singer Perry Farrell, we have come to the conclusion that we have no choice but to discontinue the current US tour.

‘Our concern for his personal health and safety as well as our own has left us no alternative. We hope that he will find the help he needs.

‘We deeply regret that we are not able to come through for all our fans who have already bought tickets. We can see no solution that would either ensure a safe environment on stage or reliably allow us to deliver a great performance on a nightly basis. Our hearts are broken. Dave, Eric and Stephen.’

Lau previously took to Instagram to share Farrell’s side of the story and his apparent reasoning for the outburst, citing sound issues and the singer feeling he couldn’t be heard over his bandmates as well as rising tension.

Farrell also shared a statement apologising for the fight, writing: ‘This weekend has been incredibly difficult and after having the time and space to reflect, it is only that I apologise to my bandmates, especially Dave Navarro, fans, family and friends for my actions during Friday’s show.

‘Unfortunately, my breaking point resulted in inexcusable behaviour, and I take full accountability for how I chose to handle the situation.’
