FIFA Announce Shutdown Of Official Facebook Page Over No Future Plan
.
The international governing body for football, FIFA has announced the close down of their official Facebook page for FIFA Confederation Cup.
This announcement was made via the Facebook page, where they wrote;
Dear Fans. This was our first ever Facebook page, launched for the FIFA Confederations Cup in 2013.
As the tournament will no longer be played in the future, we are going to close this page. All of you who are not already following, will then become followers of FIFA World Cup.
This will happen in the next 24 hours. But we wanted to let you know first. We hope you join us on the journey to 2022. Maybe YOUR country will be crowned the next champion. Thank you for the memories!
However, a concerned fan drifted a suggestion for the international governing body for football, he said; “You can convert the page to something to something lucrative rather than closing it. My opinion though.”
It was turned down by a quick reply from the admin of the page with a write-up which says;
“We thought long and hard about it Joshua.
But as the FCC was always the ‘warn-up’ for the FIFA World Cup with national teams, we felt this was our best solution. Then, for fans who perhaps were not aware, we already have a page for the FIFA Club World Cup – Where we will continue focusing on that event. Take care.”
The FIFA Confederations Cup was an international association football tournament for men’s national teams, held every four years by FIFA. It was contested by the holders of each of the six (AFC, CAF, CONCACAF, CONMEBOL, OFC and UEFA) continental championships, along with the current FIFA World Cup holder and the host nation, to bring the number of teams up to eight.
Between 2001 and 2017 (with an exception of 2003), the tournament was held in the country that would host the World Cup next year, acting as a test event for the larger tournament.
The last champions were Germany, who won the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup by defeating Chile 1–0 in the final to win their first and only title.
In March 2019, FIFA confirmed that the tournament would no longer be active, owing to an expansion of the FIFA Club World Cup in 2021.
Do you think its a wise decision to delete the page?
