Katie stifled and watched him. “What then are you keeping me in your life for, Ray?”.

“Why? Are you helping me out with an intention?”.

“Why do you think I am helping you out with Zoolander?”.

He shrugged. “As a good friend of course. Good friends help with no intention”.

“Why is it so hard for you to consider marrying me, Ray?”.

“I see you as just a friend and nothing more, Katie. But if you are not satisfied with that, you have to go because I have no intention of using anyone”.

She sighed sadly. “I know you will learn to love again irrespective of what you faced in your wife’s hand”.

“I have no intention of marrying again, Katie. Go out there and look for better men. Don’t put your hope in me at all”.

Katie cleared her throat. “Employ a nanny then. I can’t continue to be a nanny for someone that doesn’t see a future with me”.

I had just finished an advert with the agency when I was told that someone wanted to see me in my office.

To my greatest shock, it was Coker Lee!

He hugged me immediately I entered the office. “How have you been, Patricia?”.

“Whoa! So surprised to see you!”

“Yes, I came to ask you for something very important”.

“Important? Please talk to me”.

“Can you be my girlfriend?”.

While I was pondering in the garden about Coker Lee’s request, my phone rang.

It was my mum.

“Hello mummy?”.

“I drove past your husband’s new house and found a sign board at the front. He is looking for a nanny. It seem your rival has gone. Go and grab that opportunity and take care of your daughter the way you want her to be taken care of”.

“But mother, are you sure that he will not think that I am doing all these to get close to him?”.

Trust my mother.

She angrily disconnected the line.

I knocked on the big gate of Ray’s new house but I could hear the sound of my banging heart more than the banging I was doing to the door.

The security guard directed me to the big house and I sat down on the cushion that i was offered to sit on and looked around the messed up sitting room.

Cornflakes litters, scattered playhouse, the smell of urine, water on the floor.

Immediately I heard his footsteps, I rose to my feet.

He was shocked to see me. “Patricia?”.

“Good morning to you sir, I came to apply for the post of a nanny. I hope you will employ me sir?”.
