Wondering what I mean? I mean WASTED BACKLINKS……..
……
Stop wasting backlinks, stop wasting quality backlinks, I have taken my time to analyze so many blogs belonging to members of this group, to be honest, they are wasting their quality links.

Hello!! Have you heard about the deadly virus called Coronavirus? No? See What It Is & How To Prevent It Here. Also Stay Connected & Get Latest Updates On Coronavirus Here. Please be safe! We LOVE You.

What I mean is, Why do you allow your backlinks to point to 404 page?

After building backlinks to posts and later you delete the post, you might have forgotten that you built a backlink to that particular post, after deleting the post, the backlink will now be pointing to your blog 404 page unless you did a redirect.

Based on my research and my little experience, any backlink pointing to 404 page is a waste, it is not helping your website ranking in any way, it’s better for your backlink to point to the homepage than pointing to 404 page.

WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO?

what you need to do is very simple, not technical at all.
Whenever you delete a post, redirect its URL to another similar post or redirect it to your homepage, this will prevent your backlinks from pointing to 404 pages after you delete a post.

Backlinks pointing to 404 pages might cause a ranking drop especially when your high-quality backlinks now point to 404, it passes no juice anymore.

WHAT IF YOU HAVE DELETED THE POST BEFORE NOW, THEN DO THIS.

You can do any of this 2:

  1. Install 404 to Home plugin
  2. Get Ahref premium (you can use MOZ pro, SEOprofiler pro, Majestic pro, Semrush Pro too), type in your domain under site explorer, click enter, on the next page, left sidebar, click on broken under backlinks profile, there you will see all the posts you deleted that had backlinks pointing to them, now copy those URLs and redirect them to another post or homepage, you can use Yoast or any other plugin to do that.
