Written by Osaya Solomon (Magnificent Creationz).

A lot of creatives have complained that they’ve executed jobs that they weren’t paid for. When I see complains like this, I can’t help but blame the designer.

There are ways to approach a design project that safeguards your money and positions you as a serious business person.

This is how!!!

1. Always Ask For a Brief

A brief is a document that contains the details of the job to be done. A brief is important because it helps you understand the mind and expectations of the client.

If you need a sample of a brief, chat me up later on WhatsApp and I’ll send you a copy.

2. Invoice

After studying the brief, now that you know what the client wants, the next thing is charging them. Don’t just call out any figure and leave it open to prizing. Send them an invoice.

A invoice is just a document that has your brand name, your logo, it has the job description of the client, and how much you are charging them. The invoice also has your account details and payment agreement.

In your invoice, you can specify that you always collect 50% upfront before starting any job. Balance will be paid upon completion. Or any other condition you want to add.

Having an invoice makes you look like a professional who’s serious about business. It sends a clear message that your company will only attend to jobs that have been paid for (partly or in full).

I hope this was helpful.
You are free to ask questions. Thank you!
