12-year-old Nasarawa boxer claims ‘This is just warm-up game’ after knocking out opponent
Yusuf Abdullahi, a 12-year-old boxer from Nasarawa State, believes he will win a gold medal in the 8th National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State, which are now underway.
Abdullahi claimed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Saturday, immediately after defeating Enugu’s Maxwell Aniwake in the 42kg male boxing event and advancing to the quarterfinals.
“I have yet to give my all; this is just a warm-up game. My goal for this game is to win the gold medal.
“I was prepared for this game and am very determined to win the gold medal in my category”, he said.
Abdullahi, who dominated the contest with his devastating punches, was declared winner of the bout after the referee stopped the contest in the third round.
The referee halted the fight in the third round, and counted to eight to ascertain if Aniwake was fit to continue, but his coach threw in the towel.
In his reaction after the fight, Abdullahi said: “I feel happy boxing, I am yet to unleash my power, I will do that in the final.
“I give kudos to my coach, Nnamdi Osuji he trained me well and I believe I will beat my next opponent,” he said.
